Just visited Lake Matheson a week ago. shot both sunset and sunrise, sunset seemed to be a better bet here provided there's no wind. The sun sets In the west behind you lighting up the southern alps with a gorgeous pink/red glow.

Hi Hayden - sure is a cool place huh!? I did shoot a sunset there one time too and the pink light on mount tasman and the foreground is lovely, but there was also heaps of cloud obscuring the view! = ) Ewan

It certainly is a great time to visit all the iconic photography locations in NZ with so few people taking selfies. My recent trip south was a washout weather wise but it didnt really matter as my WHY is just being there absorbing the feeling. Thanks Ewan

Oh how I long to get back there! Like one of the previous comments, I aways look forward to your VLOGS and beautiful images. Beautiful Lake Matheson, i remember so wel on a glorious morning with some fog dancing over the lake and against the mountains....one of my all time favorite image in took there. Your video (beautiful filmed in docu style) show the real beauty from it. Your last words tell the whole story....not only the shooting, but being there and see the beauty of the landscape itself!

The light changed quickly which prevented me droning on too long anyway. A relaxing spot though which can only make you appreciative, reflective, and just watch the mountains. Thanks again Simon. Would have been great to get there a couple of years ago but unfortunately even us Aussies weren't allowed in. Reflecting on why I take photographs... It makes my soul sing. With landscape photography it is that opportunity to get out into nature. Nature is healing for the soul and as a mental health nurse, it is solace.

Stunningly beautiful videography and images as usual. I hope to be able to visit New Zealand again sometime. In answer to your question - I have always loved the outdoors, spending time walking and kayaking, in often remote locations. Photography was a way to share these adventures and experiences with my family and friends. As I have grown older photography as become a more creative experience, almost meditative, way to reconnect with nature. Hopefully this makes sense. Thank you for sharing. Hi Ewan your images of New Zealand are incredible best I've seen AMAZING well done no wonder you moved there. In your opininion I'd like to know when you believe is the best time to visit NZ for photography to get some snow on the peaks in the North island in particular. Hi Eric. Thanks fir the view and the comment. I’d say, to guarantee snow in the mountains in the north island- you would need to be looking at August, or maybe July. This would allow you to see snow on the central plateau. Hope that helps. Ewan

Hi Eric. No dramas. Anything in the South Island (South South) from July through to October. Late August is deep winter but there can be too much snow and can spoil a view too. No guarantees though. The mountains are around 2500-3000m in the south and hence have snow on them most of gtje year but Stockton’s winter as it’s simply... stunning

Why? For me it started with enjoying being out in nature, then I thought it would be good to draw or paint things I saw, then finding out I wasn't good enough and getting a camera. But being out in nature is probably more important for me, looking finds things to photograph, but I can enjoy looking without feeling the need for a photograph. Cheers Marshall
