Quick clarifying question, is it required to purchase reserved seating (in addition to the marugoto pass) by using the Limited Express button at the kiosk (in other words non-reserved seating does not exist)? If so, how much does it cost? Also I assume I can only purchase this pass at Asakusa station correct? Thank you in advance! :)

No luck on the cockpit lounge - seats where gone in minutes. The Tofu website goes down from 12:00 am to 4:50 am -- I am on the east coast of the US, so at 3.50am I was in and at first site ( 1 minute later) all seats were gone. I was waiting for my date to open up (1month later). I am confused, as I have also purchased the Nikko Pass. There was no deduction for the regular fare, so I am assuming that the limited express ticket is on top of any monies paid for the Nikko pass? I will try tomorrow to get the cockpit on our return.:)

Hello. The ticket goes on sale at 9am Japan time, which is 8pm Eastern summer time. For May 26, it goes on sale at April 25 8pm EST (in 20 min. after this comment). Still, it goes very quickly. As for the price, yes the pass price is only including fare and not limited express price. I wish you the best luck on return trip!

That’s awesome that you are in Nikko now! If you don’t hike and take bus to Yudaki, you can spend time in Toshogu and it may take 4-5 hours? It really depends on the traffic and how much you spend time there, but it should be around there. I was in Nikko close to 6 - 7 hours. Have a great trip. :)

Hi Brother Ken, it’s me again. Your video is very helpful but I have some questions. Hope you are able to answer my question about Nikko. I wanted to travel from Tokyo to Nikko for 4 days. I found Nikko 4 days digital pass in Klook. It’s say round trip transfer between Asakusa and Shi mo-Ichimai station. Meaning this ticket allow me to do a round trip for my Asakusa to Nikko ? I don need to buy another ticket when I want to back to Tokyo ? Is it easy to get taxi in Nikko ? I realised the Go Taxi app is only applicable for Japanese credit card user. How to get a taxi in Nikko ?

Hello. That means you can do only one round trip between Asakusa and Shimo-Imaichi, and unlimited ride from Shimo-Imaichi and further. As for the taxi app, S-Ride is the app that has English but I'm not sure if it works in Nikko.

Hi Kenchan, thanks again for this awesome video. If I plan to visit Nikko as a one day trip, how long do you think it will take me to tour all the temples and shrines within the world heritage area? I’m contemplating if I’ll have enough time to visit Kegon falls too. I will be arriving at Tobu-Nikko station around 9:30am
@tokyokenchan
@tokyokenchan 15 сағат бұрын
Hi. I haven't seen all of the world heritage area, but some sites says it takes 4-5 hours just with the area. As reference, I arrived at JR Nikko at 8:30 am, and arrived at the observatory of Kegon Falls at 9:44. So unless you visit on the peak weekend of Fall foliage, you might be able to come down to Toshogu by 1pm. The only thing to note is the Toshogu closes entree at 3:30 pm after November. I hope you come up with a great plan. :)

Thank you for this day trip idea! I have 3 days in Tokyo where I want to take day trips and this is for sure one of them. Do you think Hakone is worth it for a day trip from Tokyo KenChan? Or should Hakone be minimum one night stay?!
@tokyokenchan
@tokyokenchan Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching this video too! I suppose Hakone is popular since everything is in one seamless package, easy access from Tokyo, all the rides experience such as ropeway and ferry, and view of volcanic Owakudani and the lake. Plus, one night at Ryokan experience from budget to luxury. So it's definitely a spot to include in the itinerary especially for the first time visitor to Tokyo. It's not the best place to visit for the view of Mt.Fuji since Hakone is surrounded by caldera mountains. I went up one of the surrounding mountain called Kintoki in a day trip from Tokyo, and it was an amazing experience off from the touristy Hakone. So you can also make a day trip too. It's much easier than Nikko to access and get around. :)

Kenchan, I enjoy all your videos and created a dedicated folder under Playlists "Tokyo Kenchan!" When I first saw this video on Nikko I thought it might be interesting. However, your video brought back memories of vacation and business trips to Japan, the Far East, Europe and the U.S. I chuckled at your mention on making little mistakes (I have made many!) 😂 I laugh with you...not at you. Then the feeling of being overwhelmed when I got a glimpse of the hikers rushing off the train to get to buses. These reminded me of my own "adventures" when I traveled. There was not knowing about the underground multi-levels trains in S. Korea and lugging our bags up and out of the station. Then there was the last train I could get to visit Florence, Italy and ending up with the last night "local train"...it was a long ride. I made sure to take the express train back to Milan. It is nothing to really get upset about and I call these events "adventures" so when anyone asks about my trips I always say it was either "pleasant (uneventful) or an "ADVENTURE!". I actually remember my adventures and working things out versus calling it a "misadventure." So when I viewed your video I enjoyed your efforts to work around this wonderful Nikko day trip. I know I will have my fair share of "adventures" as I plan my upcoming visits to Japan. Train trips that will take me outside of Tokyo will be fun. Again, one of the visits (overnight) will be Wakayama to visit the Kishi (Nitama) Train Station. The train / bus ride(s) will be 5 1/2 hours. Other later trips will be to visit the Toyota Motorworks in Tahara (4 Runner) which is another long overnighter and the Seiko Watch Factory (Morioka or Ibaraki). Trip to Otake City, Hiroshima (Family) will also be planned. So thank you for the reminder to "Be Prepared" (Boy Scout Motto)...I know it will be an "adventure." 🙏🤙

WTN808 san, what an honor that you have playlist for my videos! I was on the bus in Kyoto when I read your comment, and I was smiling for a while. I'm also happy to hear that you chuckled with the scene. It was worth waking up at 5am and headed to Nikko! It's interesting to learn about your adventure in Korea and Milan. I'm impressed about your mindset that taking it as adventure and nothing to upset about. Recently, I finally started to be able to take one mistake or happening during trip as opportunity to learn, even though I end up making the similar mistake again. :) Preparation helps, but as you mentioned, it's important not to get upset when things don't go as planned. Your next Japan trip sounds like another big adventure and I wish you the best journey!😄

Kenchan san, thank you for this video! My trip to Nikko yesterday was based on your itinerary. I didn’t do Senjogahara as I wanted to visit the temples. But I did get to see all three major waterfalls and hiked along Lake Yunoko! So beautiful! Also, great tip on taking the bus from JR Nikko station instead of Tobu Nikko - I was able to get a good seat. Nobody else seem to know that tip ;)

Hi, your video is helping me a lot for my plan, i have plan to go to nikko this november, and i still have a question about how to go to Akechidaira Ropeway from tobu nikko, is it taking the same bus like your can reach to Akechidaira Ropeway?
@tokyokenchan

Hi. Thank you for watching. Akechidaira is on the way to the Kegon falls, and the bus stop is on the same route as I took. Bus stop number is 24 for Akechidaira. The only things is it stops only on the way to the mountain, and it goes a different route when the bus comes down from the mountain. So it's better to visit on the way to deeper side of Nikko.

Hello thank you for watching. Sorry I don't know about the discount. It might be something only for non-Japanese residents. If you have chance to drop by Asakusa station before you the date you head to Nikko, that might be better. If you choose Revaty, there is a space for suitcases in some cars. Some Spacia also does (Revaty is newer trains). In case you bring your suit cases from Tokyo, you might want to head to your hotel directly from Tobu Nikko station once, or you can also storage in coin locker in the station. It seems they also have cloak at tourist center.

I have now seen the three water falls, hiked the Senjogahara nature trail and visited Toshugu Shrine. Nikko seems to be really nice place and it would be nice to stay there longer. Maybe rent a cottage and a bike as well as hike at the highland. Nature trail was amazing and the Nikko's forest was really different to the forests back home. I did a day trip with my friend and we were among the last visitors at the Toshugu Shrine. We bought tickets when clock was almost 16:30, the time when they stop selling tickets to the inner shrine. It was realy nice to see the Shrine complex with out a huge crowd. Also, it started to get darker and weather was really at atmospheric. Now when I have travelled to Nikko, the transport system is not that complex. However, somehow the information about how to get to the Nikko etc. is not well presented at the internet. They should make Toby railway pass which includes limited express trains.

That's really amazing you could complete the route plus Toshogu shrine which I missed. I agree Nikko is a great place and worth staying a night or more.
