When David Copperfield did his supposed walk through the Great Wall, I suspected a different version of the trick. He had an truly excessive number of white-clad workers scrambling all over the steps and platform, in and out of the curtains as if checking myriad details. It would have been very easy for Copperfield to wear a tear-away costume with a worker's uniform underneath and a white cap in his pocket and slip out in the confusion after he "disappeared" and the mass of workers again swarmed the setup. When everything was reassembled on the other side of the wall, I think they did the same thing in reverse: Copperfield, in tear-off worker's togs, a cap (and maybe a wig or mustache), joined the throng of workers and, in all the exaggerated activity, never left the curtained platform. The disguise could easily have fit in a shallow compartment in the floor, and then the "exit" pantomime in front of the light began as shown is this video.

For those asking how Copperfield got to the other side of the wall - the Great Wall is actually very low in some parts. When I visited it, I was surprised to find that some parts of it were only a meter high. The Great Wall was basically used as a lookout point on high hills. It's not impossible for Copperfield to jump over certain parts of the wall in the darkness if they were low enough... or the assistants could have wheeled him to a low point in the wall, or there was a a ladder somewhere in the darkness for him use. It was nighttime after all, and the camera was only focused on the trick.
@functionatthejunction2 жыл бұрын
The camera crane also goes over the wall. Could have wheeled him out with the stairs then hid him on the crane, or even just attached the stairs to the crane to be lowered and used on the other side. With everyone focused on the wall below, even if someone saw the stairs being hoisted over they likely wouldnt have thought much of it.

Here’s my guess. The wall may be hollow. Pictures were made of the spots where he goes through the wall. Then the pictures are affixed to some heavy material. Bricks are removed and these doors are fixed in place. Then all he has to do is enter or exit through the sides making sure none of the doors are ever noticed. Then when everyone leaves, the original bricks are cemented back in place so no one knows the difference.

I mean, this is just a mock up to demonstrate how Copperfield’s trick was done. They literally focus a light on the double going into the platform so you can see how this is all staged. There’s no point in wasting dozens of additional man hours to practice and make something seamless that you’re literally revealing to everyone within the same breathe as to how it’s engineered lol it’s why the hands through the sheet aren’t convincing and why they gloss over certain specifics of the actual trick.

The one HUGE difference is that this magician could have cut holes in the sea containers, while David Copperfield probably would never have been given permission to dig a hole through the Great Wall Of China. Not to mention that the Great Wall is thousands of miles long and this container is 40 feet long so there’s no “wheeling the stairs” to the other side.. So that opens up the possibility that the illusions were done in different ways

This made me wonder on David Copperfield's illusion of the Great wall: 1. The stairs are too thin, no compartment there could fit him. 2. There's a face other than the 2 hands sticking out of the wall. 3. It's the great wall, not a container where you can easily go around it in 30 seconds.
@araisikewai5 жыл бұрын
Of course he didn't use a stair to transfer him over. David Copperfield go to the other side of the wall by circling through India, Indian Ocean, South Pole, South and North America, North Pole, Russia, Mongolia then back at the other side of GWoC. They just play the video speed up.

Copperfield did this Houdini style. He disguised himself fully as one of his assistants instead of slipping into the stairs and changed clothing instead of hide in the staircase. They do a quick swap and you don't even notice it. Then he just walks over in disguise and setup the exit, then do yet another quick swap while your distracted. That's how Houdini did it.

Dude your so awesome I just want to ask why do you have a mask on and never show you????🤔
@rowelle7 жыл бұрын
Anna Parks When the show first started, he was masked to conceal his identity (Valentino). Now it's just for novelty and so that they can just put anyone else in the costume.

Hmm yeah, how is David Copperfield move to another side of the great wall of china? It's not like he can just sneak out and hide inside the stairs while everyone can see the stair is being hauled over the Great Wall of China to the other side. I didn't see any stairs being flown up in the video. Also, people are watching from above. So they can see if there are 2 people inside. This explanation works if you have a controlled environment like mand made wall or containers. I'm still not convinced.

There are multiple ways this trick can be done. In much of TV magic the trick is in what you allow the audience to see. If you've ever been to the Great Wall you'll know that there are entry points here and there in the wall to allow passage for troops, etc. David went through one of these, not shown on camera. We only see what the camera wants us to see.

whenever a trick is performed in the "open" with a live audience, that audience is paid to be there. If there's no way for an ordinary person to buy a ticket to go see the trick, then everyone who is there is paid to be there and signed an NDA. As for getting around the wall. The wall is not continuous. There are many parts in the wall that are broken and not connected. They picked one of those segments.

@@lostn65 What would be awesome is for someone to find the exact spot where it was filmed, there's probably a whole in the wall next to where the stage was.

3:40 pretty obvious that the 2 guys were just poking their hands through. SInce they were only holding the thing with 1 hand from the buttom.

Feel like this trick could be simplified if they used a projector for the shadows.. You wouldn't need a double at all.

the people inside would block it though?? dude that's why there are shadows

How the hell the assistants bring the stair case on the otherside if it was done in the Great Wall of China
@athrunjudejimenez25814 жыл бұрын
Usually when those Girls Start moving the Staircase you would expect someone is hiding behind the staircase
