Absolutely agree. Had the pleasure to enjoy his "magic" live in Zurich, back in the mid-90s, and it was the best show I've ever seen. Both a great illusionist and a brilliant entertainer.

Bonembud I believe he meant to “spandex” the act of what he was doing. To stretch it, for more show value, he wanted to add showmanship

M parents took me to one of his shows back in the early 90's and was not let down. He made some ghost fly out into the audience and stuff, plus he is a great storyteller that draws you in to what he's saying. He paved the way for all modern magicians.

I really enjoyed this candid conversation and break down of what can only be described as the finest illusions ever televised. That he was honest enough to share the story of the "Royal $%#^#-up" tells you he wanted the whole story and not just a part to be known. I read several comments about how grand illusion is easier than sleight of hand, but as a person who has done both, that's just not a fact. David Copperfield is a master of his art, in all fields and has demonstrated it many times in his long and illustrious career. As for the childish comments about his hair, he even remarks about it multiple times in the interview, so move on please, you're only making yourself look small. Thanks, GQ for making this content and thanks to Mr Copperfield for agreeing to do it....

I think another really perfect illusion of his is his entire demeanor, pattern of speech, etc. He seems somewhat withdrawn, elusive, very calm and collected, kinda mysterious. No doubt a public persona so it fits his image of a magician.

Found this on the net RE Lear Jet: "The back spectators are plants, as DC runs the 10 miles to the light switch they break apart and the plane is pulled though the back way (yes it is possible to pull a learjet, when the brake is off it will move easily) once it's back there a black screen is raised around it, that's why it is done at night... The plane you see silhouetted is just a thick spot on the canvas, and the lights are at such an angle you can only see the front spectators.

Nice find! I'm just guessing, but i believe the helicopter by the statue of liberty pulled up some black cover around it, solely judging on the altitude of the heli after the curtain was dropped, but hey thats my 2 cents
@nicbrownable4 жыл бұрын
Nyoom The entire audience and curtain rig was on a turntable. They rotated the whole thing so when they dropped the curtain, the statue was out of view.

This has been a truly enjoyable video! David's acts were really special to me due to causing my family to come together and watch TV. Today in 2019 I'm on the iMac watching videos, Daughters on the lazyboy with her ipad, Son is in his bedroom playing Fortnight on Xbox and Wife is watching her show on the iPhone. Nobody seems to sit around in the family room watching a show together like we did in the 80's & 90's.

I know this might sound dumb, but he was my child hero. I genuinely believed I could fly if I try really hard. He brought some magic to my childhood, and I will always be grateful for that.
