Glad he mentioned about the warm ceiling drying out the glue faster. I wall papered the walls downstairs and had no problem with dry out. I could take my time and even stop if I had to and the glue was still tacky and wet after more than 30 minutes. When I papered the ceiling in the stairwell, whole different story. The stairwell acts like a chimney funneling heat from downstairs up. When I glued the ceiling, it was dry in minutes. So, I had to move fast. I hung joist hangers on the wall and built a platform with 2x joist and plywood so that I could move freely, with the ceiling just over my head. This way I did not have to stand on scaffolding or ladders. My technique was not as pretty and professional as this gentleman, though. It was almost comical. I ended up with the paper draped over my head, hanging down over my back, glue side up. My arms got too tired trying to hold the roll up. But, I got it done. I wanted a pop of color at the top of the stars and the paper on the ceiling did the trick. I left the platform up more than 2 weeks as I trimmed out windows and hung a hanging light. Checked the paper before pulling the platform down and it was adhered to the wall really well. It was worth the trouble and came out really beautiful. For a novice, you need lots of patience and make sure you have enough wallpaper in case you mess up and need to start over. The first strip was the hardest for me and I had to throw it out and cut another piece. I did much better with the 2nd and 3rd strips and did not have to use my whole body as with the first. You learn as you go and I would definitely do it again.

Hello. You couldn’t have timed your post better. I did a video with instructions on how to seal the wallpaper about 3 weeks ago. But my mate who helps me with the editing has been away on holiday. So sorry for the late reply. I have only just seen your message. I hope my answer isn’t too late. When I hang non woven wallpaper I always use a relatively long haired roller 1/2 as the paste has to be applied relatively thickly. Regards H

Do you put the glue on the ceiling first in this instance because it’s special bathroom glue or just because it’s the ceiling? I’ve never seen it done that way, but plan to wallpaper my office ceiling soon

Hello. I put the glue on the ceiling instead of the paper because I was using a non-woven paste the wall ( ceiling ) wallpaper. I didn’t do it specifically because it was a Ceiling. But I would strongly recommend using non-woven paste the wall wallpaper in a bathroom. Because you can use bathroom ready mixed wallpaper paste with anti fungal properties. I also saw it mentioned somewhere that painting the ceiling with a coat of paint that has just a little sheen to it (eggshell or satin) can help reduce damage if the next homeowner wants to remove the wallpaper. Do you think that’s worth the extra cost and time?
