This is the best explanation of war gaming in general, and the best tutorial of any war game specifically I have seen. Well done.

i Have just watched this because I was thinking of buying POG. You have done a great job of explaining quite a few wargame concepts to beginners. Nicely done, sir!

Your performing a great service. In my opinion all wargame companies should put out videos of this quality to explain their games!
@caomhan846 жыл бұрын
I agree. They should. I'm a new wargamer, and have had to be heavily reliant on KZbin because the rulebooks just don't cut the mustard a lot of the time. Game companies should start being proactive: (1) cultivate a KZbin presence and (2) EVERY rulebook should have an illustrated, guided example of play. Being friendly to all players will only grow the customer base of an already intimidating hobby. I have a feeling that quite a few Euro boardgamers like myself would be drawn to wargames if the jump wasn't so daunting.

I started playing wargames in the 1970s, and have taught many games to many people, but from now on, this is the brilliant example of clarity and concision that I shall ask newcomers to wargames to watch first. Thanks so much for such a well-prepared, well-thought-out and well-presented introduction to the fundamentals of wargaming.

Great choice for an introductory war game, and one that I don't think too many players will "outgrow" as get further into the hobby.

Thank you for putting this out. I've been a long time board game and on and off miniatures player. In my early days of gaming I played war games (i.e. Squad Leader, Rise and Fall of the Third Reich and Guns of August) Its been years since I have found other people who enjoy a heavier game than Axis and Allies. I hear you lament that you don't get to play much and I hear you live in the Columbus Ohio area. I live in Delaware Ohio and travel all the game stores in the area the Columbus Area.I haven't really played solo and have been looking for other who like GMT games. The learning curve is steep in some of these games and I'd love to learn to play through play rather than just reading and thinking I have an understanding of how the game plays.If you ever want to meet up and play a game please let me know.

where are the allied and CP reserve boxes located on the board ? Do you draw cards as soon as you play? Why do you have turkey instead of the Ottoman empire ? Is there an option to play a more historically accurate version

Great video series! I played TS and Labyrinth from GMT and while I really enjoy these games (they are more political I think) , I do want to have at least 1 wargame. Paths of glory seems to fit the bill. HUGE thanks for explaining the rules and an overall great introduction!

Can someone tell me if there are differences in the new versions apart from the mounted board? I have the 1999 one....Thank you all!
@ardwulfslair6 жыл бұрын
I think the differences are just tweaks, aside from the board. If you download the latest rules you ought to be OK.

There's an alternate setup in the book that tweaks initial deployment to be more historical. Reserve stuff I'll be discussing in the next episode.

Help! Do units have to retreat out of forts or can they take a step lose instead or is it determined by the terrain of the space of which the fort is located in?
@ardwulfslair3 жыл бұрын
IIRC Forts do not affect retreats. But the fort is its own thing that then needs to be besieged. If the defender is in Trench, Forest, Desert, Mountain, or Swamp, they can elect to take a step loss rather than retreat.

It will come. I have had a lot of people asking. But it'll happen when it's ready. I've had too many false starts faceplant because I wasn't feeling it.
