Brilliant thank you! I'd love a video on how to clean out the insides. If i ever go to the US, Gourdlandia is first on my list!

I don’t have much of a setup. When I have a few to wash I fill a contractor bag with water and a bit of Dawn. I close up the bag so it creates a sauna. I let it sit in the summer sun a day or two and everything is softened enough to clean them.

Yes, I've heard lots of people do it that way.

I've been growing gourds for about 5 years in Michigan. I have never had the circular mold pattern that you have on some of your gourds. Do you have any thoughts on how those patterns develop? Could it be the variety of gourd? or the location where they are dried? or something in the soil where they grow? or.......? Gourds have an element of mystery...unpredictability. They're as unique as we are :) Once you get to know gourds, well, they kinda take over. LOL!!! Thanks for your videos. I have enjoyed them all!

Good questions! I've wondered about that, too. In the west, they seem to dry differently, with that white adherent skin, and less mold. I think that the factors you mention (variety, soil, location) might all have a role. Part of the mystery (until someone figures it out!)...

@@gourdlandiaI’m in central coastal California and most of my dried gourds have a ton of the white waxy surface. So I end up using the edge of a paint scraper. I also put my gourds into a black trash can full of water with a lid and soak them for at least an hour. Works pretty good! Thanks for the video!

Please can you help me. I was cleaning my dried gourd gently and it developed a crack that’s still in one piece e like a cracked egg shell. How can I repair it? Also, I have a gourd that is beautiful in its uncleaned state. It has some sort of suede brown mould on it. Can I just clear varnish it? I’ve never seen one until 2 days ago and am totally thrilled with them. I have two, someone gave them to me!x

Varnishing right over mold doesn't sound like a great idea. Check my reply to your other comment re cracked/thin gourds.
