Reminds me of an incident in 1970....I had just got a new pair of wranglers. They were very thick robust material in those days.....and l decided to try and fade them with bleach. I stupidly put about 4 bottles of bleach in a bucket with water, and submerged the Jean's in them overnight. The next day the whole Jean's where drained of all colour and were a dirty creamy grey. When they dryed the material had just rotted, and l just managed to pull them apart into peices.....my mother was not pleased, and l have not messed with bleach since.

Shouldn't you turn it inside out before submerging it, and put light weights/objects on top of it to keep it fully submerged?

Some people turn it inside out, depends on who you ask. And it stayed submerged on the whole time once it’s soaked.

only real way to wash a pair off raw denim jeans for the first time. put them on and sit in bath off hot water. then let them dry on you

Yes for the first time when you just bought them as some pair of unsanforized raw denim should be soaked before first wear to get a right fit but we don't need to do that for every next wash.

Over time they will soften up, by the time you wash them and rewear, you’ll notice them softening little by little
