you can play a record wet, it won't heat up, it's the contrary happening, dry friction creates more heat than watered friction

Hi great method but tap water contains lime and chemicals and minerals. Better with distilled water. Also dishwashing liquid contains residue. Probably the ECO brand is better I would think.

Just one or two washes with microfiber dry wipe isn't going to hurt your record listening experience.

If you hear an improvement in the sound then there is no issue with mineral deposits or soap residue. You aren’t cleaning your records more than once every once in a blue moon. It’s a non issue. Paranoid audio snobs. You’re using a music playing system that by default is degrading on some level whether it’s dust and grime in your vinyl or the wear and tear of your stylus. The insane OCD nature of people trying, foolishly, to keep their records perfect. If that’s your end goal, never play your records, just collect them. Smh

Suction caps can be bought at Bunnings in Australia.

Thanks. I bought the suction cups and was wondering what was wrong when 1 wouldn't hold. Need both on there to create the seal.

Hi there - they both have to be closed or sealed together so they create a vacuum. If one isn’t holding try it on its own on a flat smooth surface eg window or mirror - if it pops open then return it if you have receipt. Basically the hole in centre needs to be cupped simultaneously as air will escape breaking the suction .

@@VideoSnooper Right. The video made me realize you have to have both on there to create the seal. I first tried to get one to stick with no luck and now I know. Thanks.

Can you please tell me the diameter of the pad on the suction cup? Is it identical to the 3.5 US inches of the standard vinyl label or something different? Thank you.

Please don’t use tap water on your vinyl. DISTILLED WATER ONLY!!! Don’t use detergent on your vinyl either! 90% Distilled water 10% of 99% alcohol. A good high pressure water bottle with distilled water to rinse it clean. His method will make your record sound better short term but in the long run the chemicals and deposits from tap water will destroy your records.

I'd think that depends on how hard your tap water is.

@markpinkston9043 most of what you said is just dead wrong! Nothing wrong with using tap water to clean your records as long as you give them a final spray with distilled water to rinse away any mineral deposits from your tap water. So use all the tap water you need in the initial wash. Alcohol evaporates quickly, and is useful in speeding up the drying process,. Your recommended mixture of distilled water, and alcohol is totally useless, because it lacks the necessary ingredient which is a surfactant. Without a surfactant in your cleaning solution, it will just bead up, and roll off the record never getting into the grooves due to the surface tension. Dish soap is a very inexpensive and effective surfactant which will get the solution, down into the grooves, and remove the dirt and grime that has built up. Been doing this for over 30 years, works like a charm!
