Many people like Patrick can sometimes get lost in the sea of car care products. What do I wash my car with? How can I keep it clean after I've washed it? It's the simple things that we want to help and educate you on.
So, introducing "Detailing 101". A step by step guide on the basics of car care, featuring Patrick and his BMW E36. During this series you'll see us educate Patrick on the most simple ways to Wash, Clean & Prep, Polish, Protection and Maintain his car.
Our aim is to share with you the simplest forms of car care, whether you're a non car guy, a car enthusiast, or someone that just wants to further their knowledge about detailing or the Meguiar's product range.
When it comes to washing there are a lot of shampoos to choose from. This can sometimes be quite overwhelming, but don't worry! In this video we cover all our ranges of shampoos and show you the best top tips on how to wash your car.
The products we use in this video are the Wash Plus + and Heavy Duty Multi-Purpose Cleaner. The Wash Plus + is a fantastic "Kick Start" wash. With it's micro polishing agents the Wash Plus gives the car a real deep clean removing all dirt and grime as well as any protection the car may have. We also use the Heavy Duty Multi-Purpose Cleaner. An extremely versatile product that not only can be used on fabrics and plastics, but also a fantastic de-greaser for any stubborn dirt and grim on the lower parts of the car.

I dry with an electric leaf blower. Nothing touches the paint except air. I've had good results with this for many years.

Great Vid. I like it. ON a Really dirty car like that i would Grade my TFR, Stronger for the wheels & sills ( below the lower door strip) To a milder dilution for the mid section & boot Vertical Panels etc. To a Light waft over a wet car for the glass bonnet & roof. allow it time to soak . Then LOW Pressure Rinse the thick off. Any remaining residue Another waft of mild mix TFR allow to soak then Rinse again Until The majority of the real dirt is gone. The car needs to look almost clean before contact with ANY Towel, MIT, or Sponge. Begin with a mild mix & increase to stronger if required for certain areas or the whole car. Before Wiping / Sponging with any direct contact to the paint. Allow the car to dry naturally / Blow dry with an air blower / RUN a WET VAC crevice tool covered with a Micro fiber towel 'off cut ' over the nozzle to avoid scratches, over all those annoying water traps & Trim strips, door mirrors , Badges & emblems, & anywhere else water collects & lingers on YOUR car. to pull out excess water to prevent runs later. Keep the car OUT OF THE SUN, The metal will be far too hot to polish . The products will either dry or bake on before they have time to work. & before you can clean them off. Expect to spend an HOUR per panel on an average car. Professionals & video's make it look like you / they can restore an almost scrap car before the 10am coffee break ! any less than an hour per panel & it must be an Almost new car ! or you have rushed it & made it look like crap ! Think on 10 - 12 hours on a mildly neglected car. To , Wash, Remove tar & bugs, Clean wheels, Compound, Polish, Wax the whole car, Treat bumpers tyres & rubbers etc. ALLOW the whole weekend if you use good products on a reasonable car. No fone calls,No Fag breaks, & drink your coffee as you wait for the polish to dry. THE BIG SECRET PRODUCT PRO's USE is TIME & PATIENCE. Close the Garage door, Tell everyone you are away for the weekend, put the Radio on , & maybe heating in winter, Kettle & coffee on the work bench & Plod away Undisturbed. End Result BLING BLING a Sparkling Mint Car !!! Do the same next weekend with the interior. . Compound & Polish can be used / applied by hand, machine vs hand ?? i do both to pretty much the same effect, in around the same time . IF you have ONE Car you do not need to buy a machine polisher. IF you polish cars all day & the machine is in use most of the day then buy one. Your hand pressure & eye to see the paint is best, & feel it with your fingers for slip & smoothness. BE GENTLE. if it's not right, go over it again until you are happy with every bit. If still not right try a stronger / more harsh cleaning product. You Would NOT use a JCB digger to remove weeds from a plant pot ! And you could not plough a field with a garden fork ! It's better to use too little product, & need to do it again, than to use too much & damage the surface. or waste product. Happy Cleaning.

Be a note to beginners as well because of the extreme dirt ot would be wise to do more tgam 1 to two passes however an upkeep on a car that a touchless wash doesnt work one to two passes is ideal

Whilst we, spray ultimate quick detailer and dry a panel at a time. This should help. Also make sure to give your towel a good shake out before use.

Garden hosepipe is perfectly fine to use. Even better if it has a nozzle attachment too

Gunna do a full scale decom/polish etc on my black Audi with your products, next spring. However, looking for a shampoo for over winter until I do a deeper detailing. Which one would you recommend to prepare the car but also protect it, keep it looking as good as possible until I get round to giving it some Meguiar's TLC ? It has some swirls on the black paint, looks dull, no longer the back panther her used to be ;)

I use Ultimate Wash and Wax great product that plus the Gold Class and Ultimate Wax. Gives my car maximum Protection from the sun here in Nevada.

Hi. I own a 'white' 2014 mk7 gti. What products would you recommend for removing swirls, Polish, wax etc. Basically a step by step guide on what I would need and would a DA polisher be worth the investment. Most videos I've seen are not of white cars, lol. TIA

The DA polisher will always get you better results. However with a white car it's very hard to physically see the good results you'd be getting. I would suggest something like our 3 in 1 Wax. Worked in it will remove some swirls and scratches at the same time leave a layer of protection.

Exactly that! they will bond to one another. The wash and wax is more short term protection so using that with the Hybrid Ceramic Wax is a great combo.

Our flagship wax would be the Ultimate Wax however it may not always be the best choice for your car! Depending on colour etc we may suggest a different wax.

I've never used fairy liquid on my car but it's interesting you said why, because it strips any wax off it. Recently I brought my first DA polisher and I'm going to see if I can bring my paint up, it needs to be a completely wax free surface for this so in this instance would it be okay to use the fairy liquid bearing in mind I'm going to be cutting and polishing and then waxing it when I'm finished?

Machine polishing will remove any existing wax. Also fairy doesn't remove wax, complete myth.

@@jamesrichardson4604 absolutely incorrect. It leaves a film on the surface or the clear giving the impression that it has removed the wax. I'm quite happy with my information as I've been doing this a lot of years. Abrasive polishing removes waxes and coatings. Degreasers will degrade waxes somewhat at strong ratios. As with any product that you would use to remove a contaminant i.e. Clay, Bug and Tar, and Multi Purpose Cleaner these will always have a detrimental affect to your wax/protection. We would always recommend waxing after.

Meguiar's UK ok last question,,,,,,,I’m more concerned with routine washing after a full detail, my plans are as follows, detail first: Wheels, rinse, bug remover, snow foam, wash 2 bucket, tar remover, fall out remover, rinse, clay, windows, polish, wax, ceramic wax light coating. Now after I’ve waxed with gold class carnauba initially, my plans for routine washing was just to top up with your spray on ceramic wax? Does this all make sense?
