You are best washing all such garments by hand with tepid water using pure liquid soap. Putting them in a machine stresses the seams and other parts of the clothing. Then rinse and apply Nikwax or similar product, then rinse in cold water till the water runs clear. Then air dry. This works all the time with my garments.

Why is the heat needed to reactivate the DWR? What does the heat actually do to the fabric to enhance the water repellency?
@GORETEXBrand2 ай бұрын
The exact chemical process is different for different types of DWR and garments. In general, you could say that DWR chemicals are drawn toward the heat and the molecular chain is straightened out to maximize their performance, making water bead up and roll off the garment once more.

I have a genuine question not meant to be sarcastic at all but if GORE-TEX is a waterproof fabric why does it rely on DWR coating to keep it's water proof properties? I'm still learning about waterproof outerwear and how they work.

The GORE-TEX membrane itself is 100% waterproof. When it is used in garments, it is bonded to a face fabric, which needs to be treated with a durable water repellent in order for water to bead up and roll of the garment on the outside.

Short answer: Yes. The DWR (durable water repellency) treatment on the outer fabric can be reactivated through heat, i.e. putting your jacket in the dryer or ironing it (with a towel in between the jacket and the iron). @@GORETEXBrand Do you recommend I try dry clean first?
@GORETEXBrand Жыл бұрын
@@chesterbluestyle We would recommend checking this with the manufacturing brand first as they might have some advice for your specific garment. Also make sure to check the sewn-in care label as not all garments allow for dry cleaning.

How did these people steal gore-tex as if it was their invention
@andersbomortensen7573 жыл бұрын
Dwr coating does not work in the long run. It does not make sense that the membrane is dependent on dwr to work optimally. Looking forward to you inventing something better. Goretex is not worth the money. That's just my opinion...

Opinions and a-holes have a lot in common, we all have them and no one wants yours! lol
@andersbomortensen7573 жыл бұрын
@@thepavementendsnow1901 you can't apply the same Dwr like they do in production. Goretex wet out. Country ass, hillbilly 🤣

You'd be insane to put these in the tumble dryer. Goodnight £300 jacket.

Regular care of your jacket, which includes tumble-drying, will actually extend its useful life as well as ensure the excellent performance of the garment. Find details here: bit.ly/3ibfTTu

any liquid detergent ??!?!?! you must be joking ... you have absolutley no clue what you are saying ONLY DESIGNATED DETERGENTS !!
@petercollins7848 Жыл бұрын
I use only mild liquid soap, and wash by hand. Machines stress or damage the seams. I rinse the garment, then apply Nikwax, rinsing again in cold water until the water runs clear and then air dry. Nikwax generally does not require heat to be applied to activate. I have always used this procedure even on jackets 16 years old, and they are as good as new!

can you just use sun light to do DWR?
@GORETEXBrand3 жыл бұрын
The heat provided by sunlight would not be sufficient in order to (re-)activate a garment's DWR treatment. You could either use a dryer or, if you don't have access to one, an iron with a towel or cloth in between the iron and the garment. For details click here: bit.ly/37WmZ5U

@@GORETEXBrand can you use iron without cloth or towel ?
@GORETEXBrand3 жыл бұрын
@@brokeer1912 We would not recommend it as that might damage the garment itself. Check the manufacturer's care instructions on the sewn-in tag or contact the manufacturer directly for details.
