How to shorten or lengthen your watch bracelet using the micro adjustment in the watch clasp. Not all bracelets can be adjusted this way, but you can tell if your clasp has a micro adjustment feature by the holes on the side of both clasp sides.
Mentioned in the video is the process to add or remove links to a watch bracelet that has a cotter pin style bracelet/strap. The video is here:

First attempt to micro-adjust the bracelet on my brand new watch. Maybe I should have watched this video BEFORE I tempted this. I simply wanted to move the springbar over one or two holes, and managed to eject the little fucker into my living room - TWICE. And I'm not going to lie, it took me 20 minutes to try and put the bracelet back together; 19 minutes before and 1 minute after watching your video. Life saver. Thank you.

Great video that's saved me a lot of frustration. For some unknown reason it never occurred to me to push the pins in one at a time and move each side of the link separately 😂 On one of my watches it's not actually a link that attaches into the microadjustment, but a part of the clasp. That makes it a bit trickier as you can't reposition that part at all until both pins are pressed in, but it's still much easier to push one side in, hold it in place, then push the other side in so that you can then move the relevant part.

It’s also easy to use a wooden toothpick to change the microadjustment. And it won’t scratch the clasp.

Mine came out and I can't get it back in. I tried doing the micro adjustment to see how it fits before removing links and it came out. I've spent 2 hours trying to get it back in. Brand new watch and I haven't even worn it properly yet because of this.

I did exactly what you said not too, and my spring bar shot across the room and vanished. Are there places to buy new ones? How do I know what size to buy?
@watchoffthecuff
@watchoffthecuff Жыл бұрын
Oh no! It has happened to us all! Okay first measure the distance on the inside of the clasp in millimeters. Then look at the end of the link to determine the approximate diameter of spring bar so it fits but not too loose. With those 2 measurements you should be able to order a new one. Here is my site, but lots of watch parts sellers have them: watchoffthecuff.com/collections/spring-bars One thing to note is that the end of standard spring bars might poke out a little bit past the clasp. If it doesn't bother you then no problem, if it does, you can file down the end so it doesn't stick out. Hope that helps!!! Cheers, Colin

Is the springbar too small? If so one end could be just pushed in a bit too far so it isnt springing back to its proper length. See if you can pull either end out if it appears to be pushed in! Also feel free to send me a picture! Cheers, Colin

This was not as easy as it looked, since I moved it too much in the wrong direction, and the spring popped out...nothing with watch repair has been as easy as I hoped it would be since buying a repair kit. Had to press the spring down with a metal letter opener and push it back under, and it seemed to take forever to move both pins to where they popped into the correct hole. But it's now done, and I would not have known how to do this, or what tools to use without your video. Many thanks!!

It can be a bit tricky the first time! Glad that it worked out in the end. I struggled with many watch repairs until I had done them over and over again (as I own a watch repair business!). If you ever need to make an adjustment again, either on the watch you worked on, or another one you will do way better the second time! Anyway, I feel your pain, but I'm glad it worked out in the end, if you ever get stuck send me a message and I'll try to help! Cheers, Colin

i have a clap where the spring bar broke when i removed it is there a particular type i need to get or will a generic on fit if i get the correct length?
@watchoffthecuff
@watchoffthecuff Жыл бұрын
The short answer is yes, however, usually the spring bars for clasps use a spring bar with a shorter end. So a standard will work, but it is likely that it will poke out a bit through the hole in the clasp. Since I have the tools I simply file down the end of the spring bar so it sits flush. Hope this helps! Cheers, Colin

Perfect. Measure the diameter of the spring bar as well. Generic ones are typically 1.5mm but the clasp spring bars are quite often 1.8mm. if you cant find the right diameter check my website, i have just about every size available.

Hi, it seems that i am unable to poke into the notch because it seems that the spring is kinda stuck.. anyway to fix it if the spring is stuck please?
@watchoffthecuff
@watchoffthecuff Жыл бұрын
They do sometimes get sticky. The main problem is that the inner spring is typically plain steel and gets rusty over time. You can force it, but the spring bar comes apart when you do that.. you can piece it together and put it back or you will need a new spring bar. The other issue will probably be that a standard spring bar will stick out a little bit past the clasp, as ones designed for the clasp have a stubby end so it sits flush. It may mean a trip to your local watchmaker! Cheers, Colin

Does anyone know if this watch will fit an 8.75 inch wrist?
@watchoffthecuff
@watchoffthecuff Жыл бұрын
I have a 7 inch wrist, and when I sized this for myself I think I took out 3 links, reducing thrbband by 3/4", then I micro adjusted one alot, reducing it another 1/8" (making estimated size of bracelet out of the box a maximum of no more than 8"). So I think you would definitely have to purchase extra links. For reference this is the Malaysian version of the SKX009 (K), as they Japanese version (J) only comes on a silicone strap. However there are lots of aftermarket jubilee style bracelets available for this watch! Maybe try Strapsco first to see what the options are? Cheers, Colin

Sometimes when you squeeze the springbar one or both sides can get stuck, and dont spring back out. If you are lucky you can gently pull it back out. Other times one end can pop out too... so check to see if one end is missing! It is possible to buy a new springbar if you need a new one.
