Kinda wish Soundout could've fit the reason Metal Hero died after Robotack in there, though I imagine that's a "left out for time" thing. Toei just wanted to start up a series of Ishimori Productions reboots and chose to can Metal Hero to make budget and TV time slot room for it. It wasn't because Kabutack and Robotack didn't do well. Both actually did pretty well. They started with Moero! Robocon in 1999, then Kamen Rider Kuuga in 2000. As far as I understand, they always planned to do two Kamen Riders, then move on to something else. Kuuga did so well that they added a third year on. Then Agito got a fourth added on. And so on. Toei eventually decided to try and leave Kamen Rider behind and do a Henshin Ninja Arashi reboot. Toei abandoned the Ishimori Productions reboot idea and replaced the planned Arashi reboot with an original concept very early in pre-production. That original concept ended up becoming Kamen Rider Hibiki. Kabutack and Robotack's only connection isn't Robotack's (completely and utterly impossible to happen within the show's canon) movie! In Robotack's first episode, the uncle of the show's human child protagonist is briefly seen watching Kabutack's finale at the beginning of the episode. Kabutack and Robotack have also both only ever been made available in full on VHS in Japan. Neither have had a DVD or Blu-ray release in any country, despite Kabutack getting an HD remaster that's Toei Tokusatsu Fan Club exclusive.

The Robocon reboot is an odd piece. I think it was one of the net movies for Hero Taisen Z that showed a whole rolling list of the Metal Hero shows, which for some reason included that reboot at the end.

Hell to the yes!!! This is the video I've been waiting for, considering you've done this type of vid for every other franchise. Ironically I recentlu just finished watching my Gavan Blu-Ray and I had a blast watching. I seriously love that Discotek has brought Metal Heroes back to the limelight with there Blu-Rays. Since I already have Gavan, Sharivan, Juspion and Jiban, I can't wait to get Shaider and add it to my collection. As well as Winspector whenever it comes out next year. On a unrelated note, I did wanna ask u something that was Toku news related that I was unable to find information about and it seems up your alley. I heard that Media Blasters will be releasing there Kamen Rider Blu-Ray set, now called "The Kamen Rider Trilogy: The Elite Kollection" soon but I was unable to find any sort of a release date. Was wondering if you've heard this or anything else. Cuz I would love to get it but I don't want to until Ik for sure there is a concrete release date.

It was legitimately really exciting when we were getting the Next Generation and Space Squad movies! It was a blast to see all those characters crossover with each other. I would love if Toei got a little momentum again to put out something new.

12:32 BTW, you can stop watching the series after 51, which concludes the main story; while the last two episodes were more or less post-script. Maybe the production had troubles with B-Fighter Kabuto, so they extended it to two more episodes. Oh, and those episodes reference the previous two series.

I do think it would have been cool if you had mentioned Sharivan is a great show for horror fans given we are entering Halloween. That is also why the Next Generation movie was more adult compared to the others as they were aiming at the tone of the original show. Nevertheless, you did a great recap of the series that works for someone just entering the franchise. Regardless of what fans think, Toei does count Robotack and Kabutack as official MH series. I have their book, which is broken down to the categories being Space Sheriff, Metallic Hero, Rescue Police, Destiny Soldier, and Robot Hero. Discotek did hint that they do have the whole Rescue trilogy during their stream last month, so I wouldn't worry there. I am curious if they will do everything or if they are just licensing most series one at a time like Shout! does with Sentai and Rider. BTW, I love your Tiger & Bunny poster in the background.

Yeah, I got a friend who works for Bandai Japan and acording to her. the 2010s Metal Hero revival was too little too late, and younger toku fans (kids) that the toys are aimed at didn't care about a long dead brand. Hell, when i told her about the discotek blurays doing well. her reply was, "Really? but it's a showa generation franchise."

Another great guide as always! I have to ask, is there a reason why certain Toei Hero shows aren't considered Metal Heroes? Characters like Kikaider, Robot Detective, etc seem to all fit the qualifications. Is it just that they were made earlier in time? On a similar side note, would you ever make a video talking about all of Toei's other random hero shows?
@Soundout12Ай бұрын
Pretty much it’s just the timing of when they released. Kikaider, Robot Detective, etc really do work as like proto-Metal Heroes I’ve thought about it. We’ll see how this video does to see if its a viable idea

I wish Metal Heroes could get a revival of some kind, though I'd rather something original than just another Geki/Gavan Type-G adventure, or another show that tries to keep connected with its legacy in some form like how Ultraman was up until Blazar. But I suppose the question is how you'd distribute it, and best idea I have is streaming, since Metal Heroes could be that franchise that does concepts or stories that'd struggle to work or wouldn't be allowed to be done for Sentai and Rider.
@Soundout12Ай бұрын
It would be cool for them to try something new for sure. Aiming it at a little older demographic than the other shows could be an option too

Ah, Metal Hero ... unfortunate they left this burried after Kuuga came
@collectorcanine96Ай бұрын
Not quite. Toei did another show in the same time slot during the year between Robotack and Kuuga: a reboot of Ishimori Productions' Robocon. Toei planned to do a series of Ishimori Productions reboots and canned Metal Heroes to make room for it. Not because Kabutack and Robotack didn't do well (they did perform quite well), but because it was either can Sentai or Metal Heroes and they picked the less popular and shortest-running of the two. My understanding is that Kuuga and Agito were the only two Kamen Riders planned from the start before Toei would move on to another Ishimori Productions IP, but Kuuga did so well that they had already decided they were going to keep going after Agito before the public even knew about Agito. Then the Rider shows kept doing well and they kept adding another on. Then Toei finally decided they were going to go back to the original plan and do more Ishimori Pro reboots with Henshin Ninja Arashi. Then Toei abandoned the Ishimori Reboot series and the Arashi reboot became a totally original concept called Hibiki Hero early in production. Then this became Kamen Rider Hibiki. Then Kamen Rider just kept going and going and going and going and that's how we got where we are now.
