Just discovered you last week and have enjoyed watching several of yours since then. Amazing to watch your paintings move from chaos to beauty...sort of the way God created.

I always go to my piece of plastic card to do rocks. Lay in the color then I put on the texture with the card. Always, Ha! I've been teaching myself to paint for 3 months. I really appreciate artists such as yourself for guidance. Beautiful scene.

I loved the drama you created, I was worried when you added the darks to the rocks, but I realised why when it set off the ocean in the completed painting. Thank you.
@PatrickLeyGreaves7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Lorraine. Sometimes I'm a bit heavy handed with the darks in this case it worked out ok, but not always. :)

There is a strange eerie sense in that I had imagined a grossly similar scene to what you painted when I read the book, Lord of the Flies by William Golding. I had imagined the sea on the right, rocks in the middle. The scene I imagined brought me to your channel because I was searching for watercolour beaches with some form of dangerous rocks as the book depicted.

PositivelyNice Thank you for all your recent comments on my work ,there much appreciated. Lord Of The Flies a fantastic book which I read quite a few years ago.

beautiful work, and a great lesson.....lots of action in the waves......

+Rick L Thank you rick for your continued support. It appears like a lot of action in the waves rick but there is only a few brush strokes in there its all suggestion your mind makes up the action. Having spent many many holidays in Cornwall this painting brings back lovely memories of wonderful colours. Thanks Patrick. I live right on the East Coast near Aldeburgh and the North Sea is rarely blue, usually a muddy colour and the waves are always short - it would be interesting to see how you would represent it! Turner colours come to mind.

+Brenda Fradd I have painted the East Coast before I will look out for a suitable picture and do a video demo shortly. Thank you for taking the time to post your comment

+Patrick Ley-Greaves (Pure Watercolour) that would be great. Thanks. The Essex and Suffolk part of the North Sea is still quite muddy and the beaches are mainly stoney, it was the last part of England to be joined to the continent, admittedly a few years ago, and we also get the mud from the Thames basin. Just a little further north are the lovely sandy beaches of Norfolk and the water is clear! Having said that we do have wonderful marshes - an interesting place to paint.

Mounts always help but it really made it jump out on this. I liked the rainy effect mid horizon, you didn't say if that was what you were specifically, was the paper dry, it looked a heavy weight? Loved it.

Very nice indeed. Seascapes are difficult and I don't know about this being that easy to paint but beautifully done. Thank you and take care :)

+pipester48 Work like this looks good but really isn't that challenging to the painter. Thank you very much for your comments they are gratefully received :)

What sort of Arches paper are you using here? I have gotten hold of Arches rough at a fairly affordable price, but if I'm to get smoother paper, I'll have to invest way more money in it. I haven't used it much yet (sort of been focusing on my sketchbook instead of trying to make complete paintings). So just wondered if you'd do this same sort of scene on a rough paper? At least it looks pretty smooth on the video. :)
@PatrickLeyGreaves6 жыл бұрын
You can do it on rough, although I use arches 140lb Not surface it's in the middle between hot pressed and rough. I find it good for most things. It's a long time ago since I painted the stormy seas painting I am pretty sure it was on arche 140.

Lovely painting indeed but it would have been helpful to know what colours you used. Personally, I find rocks very difficult to paint but you did not provide any guidelines on that front.
