Dear Eric, How come my black 10x Stetson Shasta has seen heavy and long downpours, while my two tan 10x gets a bit swollen where they get wet? Stetson couldnt answer that, so the hats went under the spray.

Back 20 years ago when I made $275 a week as a farm laborer, it was an expensive hat at $180-or-so. *Supposedly* it's a "fur blend" which *supposedly* means mostly rabbit and some beaver fur. Who knows---Resistol may consider wool to be 'sheep fur.' Anyway, the first time it go soaked, brown dye ran out of it. I let it drip-dry on top of a fence post in the barn and eventually sprayed something on it. I don't remember what it was---probably something for boots. My idea when clicking on this particular video was to get info about restoring that hat. After years of use it's faded and dirty and needs to be re-formed. If I was going to re-dye it, I wanted to waterproof it. And if I was going to waterproof it, I wanted to do it correctly. So when I searched KZbin, I searched for videos with names such as "How to Waterproof a Felt Hat: Felt Hats." Crazy, I know. I did not look for things like, "Do you need to waterproof your very expensive felt hat?" or "Why you DON'T need to waterproof your very expensive felt hat." This video is as useful as a video entitled, "How to Change Spark Plugs: Dodge, Ford, Chevy Trucks" and then the whole video says nothing but, "There is no need to change the spark plugs in your truck if you bought the more expensive Diesel version since it doesn't use spark plugs. If you have the gasoline engine, you'll need to change your spark plugs. Thanks for watching." As far as my old hat, I've since changed my mind. I've got other hats and that one---beat up, dirty, misshapen---reminds me of where I came from.

Apparently you have never been caught in a downpour. My Stetson gun club got saturated to the point where the dye stained My hair and face. Believe it or not some people actually use them for something other than a fashion statement. If you want to parade around and look pretty that's your business. I actually use mine as an essential piece of equipment.
