I would have started with a horizontal application on first coat allowing the vertical 2nd coat help any water that hits the wall travel down the wall effortlessly and not allow any water to sit inbetween the ripples

Hi, DId you put silicone around the puddle flange? Would the waterproof membrane stick on the silicone? I'm using RLA Commercial WPM Class 3 with fibre reinforce in the membrane. If I have 14mm silicone bond breaker in all the wall/wall and wall/floor junction including shower hob, would I need to use the polyester fibre reinforcement roll in those corners? What about around the mixer, spout and puddle flange when waterproofing down into the drain? I noticed the waterproof membrane becomes really thin on the silicone bondbreaker and some area I can see the silicone underneath. Would it be a problem if I apply the first layer too thick? The recommendation is 1mm after 2 coats but I"m thinking off doing 3 coats since it's the upstairs en-suite bathroom.

Hi. If you apply more than 3 coats, is that make it more stronger or leads to peel off easily? I am currently doing my bathroom, as it's previous waterproofing failed and caused huge task and headache, I would appreciate from you tips if you offer, thanks

with the angle around shower base...the tiler would kick it out of place as it could be too high or too low to be flash with the tile. use poly and even bandage on joints/corners.

Hello, fantastic tutorial! I am about to redo from scratch a bathroom on a houseboat and am wondering if this process of waterproofing would be suited for wooden walls. I did not build the inside of the boat and haven't scraped off the current wallpaper from the walls, so I wouldn't be able to guarantee which type of wood it is, or if it's marine grade. What would be your opinion regarding general wooden walls? Thanks!! Francesca

I just buy 50 tubes of no more gaps and brush that on, that should work right ? For a bond breaker I wipe on some stale Hungry Jacks thick shake at the join and I use their straws as a bond breaker coz we can get all them straws at Hungries for free just take them. So far my showrer has been in use for 2 days and no signs of any leaks, awesome !

Hey, nice demonstration, may I ask what if you use more than 2 coats, I intend to apply 4-5 coats, is that would be Ok. Or the standard is two coats and I like to do waterproofing the entire bathroom wall and floor, as waterproofing failure caused a huge damage to my property. Thanks in advance for ur response.

Hi Guys judt wondering if you can help me out. I recently started my bathroom rennovation the house is about 30 yrs old double brick construction and they used concrete to hold the tiles up on the wall. I chipped them all off with a rotary hammer drill but now the surface is uneven as some areas of the walls have bricks exposed due to the concrete bonding so hard to the cement it all came off. My question is can i waterproof directly over brick and the concrete patches even though the surface is uneven on the walls? And what are your thoughts on conflex tile adhesive. ? Any help would be great thanks in advance PS excellent video demonstration

Different products have different second coat apply time, it’s always best to read the instructions on the label.. with the k10 in this video it has a fast second application cure time of 3 hours, however this is dependent on the temperature and humidity at the time of application e.g. cooler winter days would extend this time.. a simple rule is a touch dry rule that means the product has filmed dry. Hope this helps

laccanvas yep, but usually bedding is required in the shower space, before tiling, and fully immersible glue is what you use (eg. Powder Mastic). The green stuff is Davco K10 Polyurethane membrane.

I hope that wasn't silicone in the corners, because the membrane was K10 polyurethane. You have to use a polyurethane sealant like Sikaflex, under a polyurethane membrane. Also, bond breaker tape is required in the corners.

+Leon Tory Walker A neutral cure silicone is fine
@lukeparker3561
@lukeparker3561 8 жыл бұрын
+Leon Tory Walker a 12mm radius of neutral cure silicone is the bond breaker. If you use sikaflex in the corners the membrane cannot realise as in bonds to it therefore you don't have a bond breaker and movement may result in membrane failure
@waterproofawareness7794
@waterproofawareness7794 8 жыл бұрын
Technically neutral cure is the only sealant that is a bond-breaker, polyurethane is paintable and technically a fillet joint.
@leontorywalker8374
@leontorywalker8374 8 жыл бұрын
Ok, we'll this is from the Davco K10 Plus data sheet: "All cracks/joints, irrespective of their width, must be filled firstly with Davco Davsil (Silicone Sealant) or Sodaflex 603 (Polyurethane Sealant). Then 50mm wide polyethylene/polypropylene tape should be placed over the crack, ensuring it adheres to the surface." Incidentally, Davsil is not a neutral cure silicone filler, it's an acetoxy cure silicone (commonly acid cure). Personally, we always use polyurethane. By the way, I've never considered polyurethane paintable, I think what you might be thinking of is what's known as "gap filler", that's latex acrylic, and yes, don't use it for this purpose
@waterproofawareness7794
@waterproofawareness7794 8 жыл бұрын
Polyurethane is paint able, just as acetic cure is, they must be left to cure before painting over them. We have painted over it without it being cured properly and it actually attacks the membrane through vapor release. AS3740-2010 states a bond breaker must be used so to be technical, as polyurethane is paintable, it is not a true bondbreaker, due to the membrane sticking to the sealant. Neutral cure is not a filler it is a waterproof sealant just as polyurethane is. Its clear by your response, as with most in the industry of these small gaps in the knowledge, which can lead to failures and technically if you had to go to court for a dispute, you would come unstuck. Its good that you are trying to do the right thing, but be careful as some reps do not even understand this also.

problem is with that water proofing membrane coating is the grout in tiles will not totally stick on that compound, and you are going to have a big problem in the future every day used.and the tiles will going to puff up or removed because that membrane have a mixture of silecone rubber.

+Dewayne M (Windygorge) There are specific tapes which can be used as bond breakers, duct tape is not ideal as it stretches and then wants to shrink back. Gaffa tape is ideal if you want to use tape for bond breakers.

@lukeparker3561

+Karen Bouncer please read previous comment. It is not duct tape it is gaffa tape. needs to be a reinforced polypropylene so the tape wont stretch and will allow the mebrane to release hence the name bond breaker. this allows the membrane to have a lot more flex in critical movement joint.
