Tips for waxing your snowboards at home and the tricks I have learned to make waxing your board a fairly easy. With your iron hot and wax in hand, start dripping wax around the outer edges, this is where your snowboard base will be the driest. Then move across the board in a patter to get an equal amount of wax over the base. Spread the wax across the base with the iron, until the entire base is covered. Keep the iron moving to prevent any part of your snowboards base from getting too hot or burnt. Now that the wax is applied, turn off your iron, and let the wax cool and absorb into the base for a half hour to an hour.

You don't have to wax a new snowboard straight away, but I would after a few days riding. Everyone I know scrapes the wax off (friends, pros, board shops) but you could try not scraping and see what happens.

Sharper edges are always better for sliding and carving. If you want to do park stuff like boxes and rails, then you want to leave your edges a bit duller.

to further polish the board, you can use a nylon brush and run it tip to tail about 30 times. Then use a horse hair brush and go tip to tail 30 times to really polish it. This actually increased the smoothness of my riding a lot.

Go on Amazon and buy the Racewax Brush Kit Set of Three Brass, Nylon, Horse. The brass brush is for cleaning the base and the nylon brush is for structuring the wax. After scraping all of the wax off the base of the snowboard with a plastic scraper you use the nylon brush. Working from tip to tail in a straight line using medium pressure brush the base. After a couple of passes with the nylon brush use the horse hair brush in the same manner.

I keep my iron on a medium heat just to make sure I don't damage my board. The brand of scraper doesn't matter, but I find a bigger scraper is easier to use. Your local snowboard/skate shop should carry one or two different brands of wax. I would go with whatever is cheaper. Waxes get more expensive because they're designed for ski racing. You can use any iron, but it might ruin it for the next time you iron a shirt. Thanks!

The hot iron gets the wax IN the base. Then you scrape off the rest. It seems weird, but after you scrape it all off you can feel with your hand how smooth it is. Especially once you get back on the snow it's like butter.

I pre-wax (rub in dry wax) over my board 1st as a precaution, so less likely I'll damage my board if I miss a spot with the hot wax, when running the iron over it. Technique I usually apply when hot waxing is 'tap-&-go'. Tap the stick of wax to the hot iron, then rub the wax into the board surface section by section; It's a little more effort/time taken but just as fast if you have good technique. It's a little more frugal/less wastage then dripping hot wax, guaranteed to cover your board, & no damage from hot spots when you run over it with the iron. I leave my board with the wax on overnight & allow it to completely cool down; so the pores of the board that are opened from the hot wax iron, can absorb as much into the base as possible; locking it in as the pores are closeing after the board cools down. * Petex unfortunately doesn't absorb wax or designed to be porous. If it did, it wouldn't be a good filler for dings & scratchs etc. it would just fall out from the expansion & contraction process from the hot iron. Cheers, happy shredding :-)
