In the system I'm working on, I found that a Blood Altar mechanic works surprisingly well, where with a specific structure, you can craft Items using Hit Points. But it's a low return unless you want to kill something, or bring the monsters to you. And sure you could do a mass sacrifice of farm animals that are going to be eaten anyway, but you'd need to wipe out the entire farm for just one more stage in that custom enchanted weapon you're designing, and even then, you've only got 10 minutes to fill the altar with as many Hit Points as you can, before you gradually lose power. But I also really like what you've done here. You've got a lot of flexibility and options, and some good jumping-off points for Players to use. I like it!

D&D player and blacksmith here. I clicked this so damn fast and I love it How do you think these rules would interact with a Forge Cleric? I’m playing one now, so I’m biased but I think that ought to count as having access to a forge at all times. Maybe the quality of the forge increases as you level too :)
@TheUglyGoblin3 ай бұрын
Oh my gosh no way! Wow :D so glad you like it 😍 Also Yes! Absolutely! I think it makes sense that a forge cleric could even count each workshop they use as one tier higher than it actually is. Except for maybe Very Rare forges until they reach a certain level :3 But also- they could make weapons as though they were at a common forge during anyblong rest :D

While i really like this idea, the doc needs work and probably a balance pass. The wording on some things is just weird, and in other places seems opposite what it might be intended, for example if you modify a piece it can only be modified at the tier of forge crafted at or lower? Shouldnt that be higher? Why can you only make fiend materials at a high level forge but can alter them at a common blacksmith? Also, speaking of fiend materials, nothing is stopping a player from spending 1 max hp 20 times to get a weapon with +20 to hit and 105ft reach. Also the fey on hit cast misty step without limit is also pretty busted. Meanwhile plants come with downside and vulnerabilities. Also, i dont think half of these even have monsters of a high enough cr to let you use the high cr materials without making custom monsters, which is fine if thats intended but beasts and plants for example, i dont think there are any 20+cr creatures available. So all in all its a neat concept but needs some refining itself.
@TheUglyGoblin3 ай бұрын
Mmm that's fair haha just kinda trying to blast these out and then go back and refine later xD but makes sense that there are some flaws here and there :P

eh I find that players get so detriment averse to weapons that they'd just prefer rolling in with +1 weapons than like "Forget something with each swing". Which to be fair, is super punishing compared to official cursed weapons.
