I used to wear my belt like that, but it caused stomach acid to come up when I was lifting. Had to move it down and now the issue is fixed.

its more like inhaling air in to your stomach making it 3/4 full..maybe 5/8 full, and then contracting your abs muscles against your stomach...and that gives you a strong core...you make adjustments by exhaling air through your mouth.. that's how I would describe it...✌️

Idk why but for a little while every time I used a lever belt I get a stabbing and burning pay in my lower left abdomen area. wether it would be the hole of a squat or the start of a deadlift, I’m wanted to buy a lever belt but I’m considering against if It’ll just be hurtful

They're not good for everyone. Width and thickness are also factors to consider. 4"/13mm is bulky

Here to update my comment - They are great, it was just that the belt I was using was way too tight, and it was more just squeezing my belly, rather than aiding my brace. A lifting belt regardless if it's a 10/13mm belt, or one of those flimsy belts that people have at their gyms are all great and will fit fine for most folks, you just need to nail the size and tightness. If everyone decided to use a belt and got the size right they'd be fine. Belts are made to be usuable by lots of people. SBD especially is kind of a one stop shop for a huge majority of lifters. So it's not that belts aren't for everyone and that "it's too bulky" just didn't have the size. But yes of course deadlifting with a 13mm belt can be annoying@@K4R3N

Get a slimmer belt 3" width or 10mm thickness. 4"/13mm is quite a wall, may not be easy for some.

@@smoke4824 the next day, the area was tender to the touch. Like a bruise or a muscle I worked out hard and was sore. Then I palpated around my belly button and above and below it, at the midline. I felt a gap I didn't have before. About a finger tip in width apart. Also my belly button feels loose, like it's floating and isn't attached to the wall anymore. I know this is abnormal, so I pressed down around my belly button and then it popped out. I never could get it to do that before, the attachment of the belly button to the abdominal wall wouldn't let it. But now that it's detached, it just becomes an inverted belly button and squishy lol A test is to lay flat and then pick up your head and shoulders off the ground/bed a bit. This will tense your abdomen. Then you touch around the belly button and above and below it. If there's a gap, it's how pregnant women know they got it.

that's an sbd belt and it's hands down the best one on the market. almost every powerlifter uses that belt. it's not cheap because it costs around 200-250 euros/dollars but it's super high quality and they have a patent that makes the lever instantly adjustable without needing a screwdriver. if you have money to spend buy it if you need one

Lever vs prong comes down to personal preference. Some guys like lever belt for quick release/adjust. Prong belt arguably more comfy, the excess belt stays outside

its for your abdomin, you dont put it that high, its to stabilize your spine and increases intra-abdominal pressure by 15-40%, thats the purpose

Belts don't make your abs weaker, they just give you something to push against when you're bracing. I will say that if you're new you should probably start off without a belt tho so you can learn to engage your core without having anything helping you brace.

Belts do not lead to hernias or weak abs and yes, they are completely a preference. There are plenty of lifters who move massive weight RAW, take for example C3Muscle or Clarence Kennedy. These guys are freaks, but nevertheless it’s possible

Proper use of your abs and breathing create your "natural weightlifting belt" - you must learn how to use this first before picking up a belt IMO.

You should learn how to brace without a belt before a belt. And no, hernias are mostly genetic. And weaks abs..... actually the opposites. Studies have shown it leads to a higher activation in your abs (but lower kn the obliques) compared to beltless. You should train both.

Back in the 80's when Raw lifting was in vogue I squatted 405 for reps at 185 on my way up to a 515 single . No knee wraps, no belt and I was one out of like 20 lifters in Grove city , Ohio ! As a matter fact your 515 at 185 in training is absolutely smoked by a 600 at 183 in comp with caliberated plates. Let alone a 700lbs at 183lbs in a full meet in the IPF.
