How to weave a circle on the peg loom

This video tutorial by Noreen Crone-Findlay shows how to weave a circle of any size on the Dewberry Ridge Peg Loom. Noreen will explain a little 'Circle math' that makes figuring out warp strand lengths easy as pie! And, she also shows how to use the Peg loom as a warping board for cutting the warp strands. Hi Noreen! I love, love, love watching your videos and your teaching style. You move slowly enough and explain all aspects, which is what I need to learn. ❤. I do have one question (so far): In part 6, on the first layer where you used all the pegs, you only did 3 rows, then when you continued on the next segments of the triangle, you did 4 rows. Is that because the first section connects to the middle of the circle and it would be too tight if you did 4 rows? Thanks!!

Watching this for the first time and thinking - if you wanted to do an oval shape I would think you could add another peg at the outer end when approaching the half way marks, then removing them after, you would need to add more weft to compensate? Have to try !

Hi Paula, Weave 2 circles and sew them together around the outside edges. Trim with spool knitted or lucet cord if you'd like to cover the seam. Happy weaving!

I have purchased your baskets tutorial and have woven a few circles on sticks, but always seem to have a hole in the center! Any suggestions on how to avoid this would be appreciated. Thanks. I did weave a rectangular basket using all wool and then hand felted it ... It came out pretty cool!

Hi Maureen, Try threading a strand of very strong yarn into a blunt needle and taking it through the central channel and pulling up very very hard on it to close the circle. Happy weaving! Glad your rectangular basket was a win :-)

Why so many warp threads? Is it related to the thickness of the weft fabric?

The warp threads need to fill the channels of the weft threads to create a firm and pleasing fabric. If the warp strands are too thin, the fabric is unstable and loopy.... not a happy thing at all!

Hi Gary, I did a lot of googling about the history of the peg loom when I was writing the book and I found very little. But, that's several years ago. Perhaps more has been written in the meantime. Good luck in your quest!

@@NoreenCroneFindlay Hi noreen Thanks for quick reply If you could send me an email address I could forward a picture of one ive made with an adjustable tilt / floor stand for those wanting to sit in chair and work across ones lap rather on ones lap or table . Although my initial inquiry was mainly that I made one of 3 and had some one in Queensland ( I’m in Tasmania ) Australia; was interested in it , but wanted documentation on that these where a Viking based design ( basically she joined a medieval history group and keeping in with genuine design used in that period etc) But so far, I haven’t found conclusively info from that time period as originally by the Vikings of that time . If anyone else could help out on this subject would be most helpful. Ps love your work .

Are you on Ravelry? There is a Peg Loom weaving group there that has several members who are in England, and who manufacture peg looms in Europe. I am not sure if American peg loom builders ship to Europe....

At the hardware store or the fabric store or the dollar store- it's for making things stop slipping around so it is sold as shelf liner. It's great to use under looms as it helps to keep them in one place.
