Welcome to my studio! This is an invitation to watch my processes as I try out new things (new to me) in my weaving and dyeing studio. After a failed project, I resley my rigid heddle loom and dye some wool to create mug rugs with a beachy feel. Things don't quite go as planned! This is not a tutorial, but feel free to leave comments and questions and I will try to answer. Thank you for watching!

I love the idea of giving the loom a "time-out"! Brilliant!

I am fortunate to have enough equipment and yarn to work on another project during any given loom's time-out :)

@@hotironmom Me too, but a 42” floor loom that wouldn’t be any better off on the wall! But finding this site has me enthused again :-))

So lovely! You really inspire me to consider dyeing. I’m new to weaving, so just seeing the beautiful pieces is exciting. Love your style and the sweet tone of your narration ❤

Oh I never thought of using placemats... Excellent idea. Also I use a long clamp and use it sideways to help keep the warp more balanced..!

Oh, does it look easy? lol! Thank you. I'm just playing, really, and won't be able to actually reproduce any of these colourways.

I love these mug rugs. You weren’t thrilled with how the brown turned out but in the end this was gorgeous yarn. I want some this color way. Are you going to be doing more of this yarn for sale?❤️❤️❤️❤️

I usually dye yarn as a one-off. I could certainly try to repeat this colourway, with no guarantees. Send me an email or fb message and we'll talk :)

This is beautiful. I am beginning and I just bought and assembled my first 16" loom. I jumped in a warped which resulted in 74 ends, Yikes! used 18 reeds to the left and 18 reeds to the right of center. I am practicing so I will make small placement or something following your video. Did you hem them? How did you tie the very first set of three strands on the fringe in order to get the 1 2 1 algorithm for the rest?

Congratulations on your first loom! I wish you many years of happiness together :) I finish with knotting, no hem. The first and last knot bundle has 3 strands.

Brown less diluted probably would have given the effect you wanted. But I love the breaking of the colours. I wonder, if you had gotten a different outcome, if the skein was pre soaked in acidic water. Edit after watching the video, it was pre soaked, so disregard that part of the comment. Isnt there an ocre or sand dye colour from dharma? This might work better for Sand in the yarn.

I have already dyed a new skein of weft and woven a bunch of ocean mug rugs! I also have a few more browns in my dye collection to fine-tune colours, but this last batch worked well. Video to come!

what other fibers i can use for this.. i am terribly allergic to wool... in order for me to work with wool for an order. i use gloves so i am not directly touching the wool directly?...
@KariFellWeaves

The most similar fibre to wool is probably alpaca. It tends to be more pricey though. It has the bounce that you need for a weft faced weave like this. Another good technique for rug mugs is warp rep and that works well with cotton.
