Well presented and clearly explained. I now feel confident to be able to complete a chair I put aside several years ago. Thank you so much! Ruthanne Zanti

Thank you, Susan! Nice complement to the instructions that came with my Shaker chair tape. And actually easier than I expected! Watching you a few times, I had a lot more confidence. And my chair looks great.

I enjoyed the video and it was very helpful. I had one issue and I'm not sure if I'm alone with it. My sister chose the pattern tape she wanted, unfortunately it was 5/8" tape. I did not realize at the time she chose it that it would be almost double the work for me (almost twice as many rows on each direction to do). I did the front to back weave and made it snug and had no issues. It's when I did the left to right weave that I had problems. I had difficultly keeping the rows straight. There would be a slight bow at the halfway point that seemed to get a little worse each time. No matter what I did I could not get rid of it. I used small dowels to try and push it and small hook tools to try and pull it back so it would be straight. I think that having the narrower tape and twice as many rows that the pattern gets tight quickly and if there was not enough slack in the front the back rows, that it will be impossible to push the side to side rows back so there is no bow in the center. That's my theory anyhow. Those last 6 rows were very tight and difficult to weave and the curve in the last row was quite noticable. It's my first attempt at the 5/8" weave and was wondering if anyone else had this issue thanks.

This is an awesome demonstration. One question, How do you calculate the length of weave strapping? Is there a calculation available?

Thanks, the video was a huge help. My biggest issue was the tacks not going into super, SUPER hard wood of the chair - I must have bent 3 for every one that went int. Hammer or pliers, same thing. Maybe just because the chair is so old (30+ years) the wood is semi-petrified?

This is so fun to watch! What fabric is the ribbon made of? If I were to do this, could I cover it with leather strips after doing the weave? I have some leather I want to use. I'd really appreciate your advice. Thank you.

Hi I just watched this video and I have a few questions. I bought a small rocking chair for my son that needs redone. I’m noticed the “cushion” is actually straw and I don’t want to disturb the integrity of the chair. Can I weave using leather? And can I weave over the existing weave to not disturb the straw?

When doing the side to side "weave", is it important to start at the back of the chair, or can you start at the front? Nice work!

Thank you, Susan and team, for your clear and succinct video! I'm about to order my tape to redo an old chair my mom gave me and I can't seem to find a picture of what the back end of the shuttle looks like. :( Any chance you can share or direct me to a picture? Just a hole at the back? I'll end up trying something anyway soon, but on the off chance anyone gets a notification and has time to respond.... Thanks!

If you are making a rectangular stool or chair back, do you still start the warp on the side rail? Thanks. Saul

I know there an over/under rule for when you begin your second tape, which puts the slightly trapazoidal squares under the chair and the more perfect ones on top. Or I'm crazy.

She fails to mention that you should Always have an odd number of warps otherwise your weave turns out wonky!

Is the material Cotton or Polyester? Does it matter? I see both on websites.

Cotton. I believe all the originals were cotton as well. See the site for shaker workshops - they have a great selection and have some types on sale right now.
