Just started work on putting together my own scale mail today- The scales are my own- hand cut from steel sheets. I've been putting the weave together over the past hour- so much quicker to make than chain mail... but so fucking fiddly! Every five seconds I'm having to adjust the scales and make sure they're all correctly over-lapping. Should be worth it though- can't wait to have a massive weave of the stuff :)

As well is the butted going to work against me or should I grab some jumprings from you guys for good measure? (Or even the right sized steel?) Thanks in advance.

I am sorry if I am not just a regular idiot, but THE idiot. But could you either make a video, or just instruct me on how I order enough stainless steel rings, in order to make a Chainmail hauberk? I might just be stupid, but it does not look like you sell the normal rings in the shop. Either that, or they are missing the picture, to verify that these are indeed the rings for that kind of project, and not a keyring, or something like that.

+The Red Gamer Many years ago I made a hauberk from spring washers. (That's the UK name for them - not sure what it would be in the US.) They're like jump rings but made of tough steel. I bought them in boxes of 1,000 from a hardware store. I needed about 20,000 for a large T-shirt sized mail shirt, using 5/16" (8mm) spring washers. My brother used 3/8" (10mm) spring washers, so he didn't need as many. Try to find ones with the least thickness of metal - in one batch I got, they were so thick the mail was rather inflexible, so I used them for a neck guard on the back of a helmet. My preferred finish is oil-blackened rather than galvanised. They're virtually indestructible, but rather heavy - my shirt is 15kg / 33lbs. I should think you could use them instead of jump rings for making scale mail, but they'd be harder to work with as the steel is tough.

Nice beginners tutorial, but it sounds as if you are working a piece of bubble gum throughout. Not very appealing I'm afraid.
