Took the plunge and bought a Deionized Water system. As expected, no water spots even after letting the car dry in the sun. What caught me by surprise was how thick the foam was from Incredible Suds. DI water is like steroids for Incredible Suds.

@@gs_mick H&G Lifestyles Portable Deionizer. It's by far the cheapest deionizer per gallon, about 50 cents per gallon (assuming it can filter the claimed 500 gallons)

I did the same thing about a month ago but I had to go with the double standard from on the go. My TDS was around 450 so the basic unit I started with only got me down to around 7 to 10 Now I'm at 0 but it's not a miracle thing, water that drips out from mirrors and reflectors etc still leak minor spots but not hard water spots. Mostly just spots from whatever dirt is in the mirrors etc and places you can't contact wash. So it's a blessing and a curse and I still have to spend an hour going after drips 😢

​@@dandieleman2715My TDS before deionizing is 140, and 0 after deionizing, so pretty soft water to begin with. I've been a bit fortunate not to have issues with excessive mirror dripping, but DIY makes a towel specifically for that problem.

Jason is the GOAT. For those new to polishing or correction (levels to the “game”) Jason is respected by everyone in the world that’s in this niche. It’s fun seeing people get to see just how nuanced this stuff can get. Sanding is a lot like performance driving. Some just have the feel for the car and some just don’t. (I still have my KXK blocks Jason 👍)

Jason is absolutely the goat, i do prefer machine sanding as its less aggressive and for oxidation its quick and easy but theres nothing like hand sanding to get paint dead flat. 10 microns is the typical removal amount if you 1500-2000 and up to 3-5K sand then do a one step cotrection or two step compound then polish/finish. Any time spent with jason for training is so worthwhile.

What a fun and relaxing video. Lot of fine nuance explaination love it. I was used to wet sand when i was working at the dealership. I was doing it for somes scratches. One time my boss went by while I was doing a UH ford paint on a f150. He said what are doing are you sure you will be able to bring those sanding marks back. Heck yeah that wasent my first BBQ. He was very streesed out that day. Let's say he wasen't very aware that I was doing that to save time here and there😂

Super helpful! Trying to fix some rock chips and when i put the touch up paint on I overfilled it slightly. Going to sand it down so it's back level with the rest of the paint. Did 2 of them as a test yesterday. Covered touch up with clear and let it dry over night. Going to polish them today and see how it's looking!

Circular motions are going to leave a less harsh edge to the sanding area, that way when you do the final polish you don't have to do as much to restore the shine. If you're doing a large area you probably should do the lines like they're doing, but afterward you may want to go around the outermost edges of the sanded area with some gentle circles to smooth those out after.

When I'm just trying to smooth over a small scratch, and am not trying to smooth an entire area or remove orange peel, I just use my finger pressed against the back of wet sandpaper and do tiny circles along the length of the scratch. Seems to work well with the thicker 3M Trizact foam backed stuff. You definitely want to use lines if the goal is to evenly remove orange peel or level a wide area though.

I'm not to lazy to attempt sanding out orange peel on my F350, but as you have correctly stated many times, there just isn't a lot of clear coat on a factory paint job. Perhaps a Ferarri or Lambo have more layers of clear; but not a modern production car. Makes one wonder.. how hard is it to prep, mask, and shoot a few layers of quality clear over a factory paint job.. but now we're talking body shop, not detailing. With my knowledge and skillset, I wouldn't dream of trying it with a $50K plus car.. but if I had a used driver under $10K? I might be tempted to break out the spray gun.. great video Nick.

I tend to disagree on this sentiment because I wet sand scratches in OEM paint all the time. I don’t suggest everyone do it, but to me it’s not a no go zone. I know they don’t put much on, but you really don’t take much actual material when sanding, if done properly. I can actually take less clear with sanding than some people take with rotary and wool pad.

Amazing content. Do you have a video that deals with the steps of filling a stone ship. And grinding down the stone chip filling to the same level as the rest of the paint. To get as good a result as possible on OEM paint without too much risk. There are very few videos that show the whole process, which takes what type of stiffness the sanding block has and there is an advantage to using a Denibbing toll first to get the biggest peak. or right on the sanding block

Hi Yvan. Congratulations on the 2 years for both you and Nick! I tried to put a dark grey/almost black trim restorer on the exterior grey plastic trim of my car and it failed. It looks streaky with some grey and some black parts now, as it dried very quickly. How would you suggest can I get this fixed exactly?

The ‘Holy Grail’ of detailing. I own a very shiny near faultless dark grey metallic VW Arteon 2019. I intend to keep the car. No garage at home. Id like to level the factory orange peel which is only noticable on certain panels but is it too risky with where the car is kept and keeping it. Thanks Guys

Please categories how in hard-medium and soft paint. Because there in Europe as i know, uselly is hard or medium paint. In asia lot have soft paint @diydetail

That’s a generalization, paint hardness can vary even on the same model.
