just the video I needed, after getting brave and tackling a small bit of rust on my 924 - I know I need to flatten it back, and this has given me confidence to use my 2K wet & dry with a spray 👍 (have added the video to my saved list - many thanks)

Finally! A great vid to show the correct way, I’ve watched so many that say start with 800(no runs) and it’s never worked out. Obviously you just have to be patient with the 1500-2000 grit and it may take more time but so worth it.
@dhalsim-12 жыл бұрын
There's too many different opinions and techniques. Some say start with an 800 dry sand first, some say never use circular motions, some say sand cross hatch etc etc

Hey, great video. Can I ask where I can find the nibbling rosettes and paper for them? Also I have just had a car painted and I’m not sure the best way to tackle a defect, I’ve never seen it before. Is it possible to send you a photo to see what your thoughts are before I tackle it?

Hi, I have painted a vintage tractor bonnet using enamel paint (which is the correct type of paint for its era) I have a slight bit of orange peel just on one side. It’s had 3 coats of paint but just wondering what grade of sandpaper you would recommend? Would rubbing down the one area stand out too much compared to the rest of the bonnet once done?

@alexisamtosta4 жыл бұрын
Hi mate. Here you are going in circular motion. And when its a scratch, you go in a perpendicular way right? 2 days ago I did my first flatting and polishing job. Didnt come out 100% but was looking much better than it was before. The scratch was quiite deep.

I clear coated my car the other day and I have a few areas that are alil rough feeling. Would you recommend wet sand then reclear coat again? Or just wet sand then buff & polish? Thanks for your help & continue the awesome content!
@RepairRefinishTV6 жыл бұрын
Hey Jeffrey! If you think you've applied enough cleacoat then you should be able to sand and polish. IF you think its a little thin I'd advise sanding a little and clear. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

Repair Refinish TV Do you think wet sanding with 2k will be ok to just get the imperfections off & not get it all cloudy looking?? Cause I bought the right applicator now & would really like to put 1 more good coat on but if gets all cloudy I have to proceed on or sand & restart. Right?

Question. I purchased a truck where the guy before me didn't remove all the "decal glue" . I managed to remove 90% using a decal eraser then compound and polished but, my problem is the hood!. There are about 15 letters (glue) . Can I wet sand them off using 1500, 2000, and then 3000 paper, then compound and polish? PLEASE ADVISE

Just one question: I own a citroen Ami 6 1963 and the roof of the car is in fibreglass or similar. Now because I flat out with sand paper a crack can I use normal filler to make it even or I had to use fibreglass? Thank you.
@RepairRefinishTV4 жыл бұрын
Hello, id depends on the type of crack. If it's a crack from stress it may be ok to just sand back to the raw fiberglass and put a light skim of fiberglass filler over followed by primer and topcoat. Hope that helps

Thanks for the video. It's made me realise I had an issue with my handsanding technique (I've caused the cut lines numerous times on test panels and wondered how to avoid them). I do have two questions though if that's okay. 1) If you were to completely flatten orange peel with 1500, but you've used dodgy technique in the process (such as cut lines etc) could these defects as a result of incorrect technique appear as pseudo-orange Peel and imitate it? I've flattened previously and after polishing out, in some areas still see small areas of bump that distort the reflection similar to orange peel, even though I've made sure of a 100% uniform surface before hand. 2) Also, second to that, if you flattened the surface with the 1500 with dodgy technique, but then sanded down to 2000/3000 with PROPER technique, would the defects you caused from the 1500 still appear?

+Leighan Meddick Hi, thanks for your comment! If you have the funds to buy a rubbing block then that would be the best option. They're as cheap as around £5. If you think you might have gotten cut lines in your panel try using a block and this should help remove them. Depending on the severity of the cut lines you may not be able to remove them. Hope this helps, Jordan
@astarpery62607 жыл бұрын
Repair Refinish TV Thanks for the response - would cut lines gives an uneven orange people look in reflections? I notice in the panel I did it on that even when I flat them, after polishing there are always some areas with waveyness. Only minor/mild though but it's still not glass that way. I guess that could be because I usually do small segments at a time, so overall they aren't always totally even with each other even when flat.

I been detailing for 3 yrs but buffing and removing scratches, restore headlights which I would wet sand but I’m painting (base&clear coat) so my question is do I wet sand from 2000 up til I cut and polish or buff?! Thanks
@jonathanmacdonald-akbari6001 Жыл бұрын
I always wait a month after a 2 part clear to start the wet sand process. I know... it's long, but I find I get a better result. I start with wet 1000, 1500, 2000, 3000, [5000], [10000], followed by cut then polish using high quality product. 5000 and 10000 is overkill, I usually do that if I know I got a lot of good quality clear coats to work with and my own personal projects. Normally, ending at 3000 is the way to go, but there will be many who stop at 2000 even 1500.

The thing I always get confused about is the difference in actual gradings between wet and dry. Eg dry sand with 1000g u get whatever finish, but wet sand with it the finish is more like 3000g if it was dry sanded? At a guess. So how do u know whether to dry or wet? The other thing is dry gets clogged and useless instantly, wet doesn’t, do seems pointless every dry sanding ??
@dexterstanley41854 жыл бұрын
Always wet sand paint. Never use dry on cars unless you are going to paint.
