Excellent video that covers everything you need to be aware of. I followed it exactly and got the new gasket on and working perfectly. However, for my unit I did have significant difficulty getting all four corners in place. There were plastic trim sections on the top and bottom of the door that got in the way and only one could be removed. Also I needed to stretch the gasket to get it around the corner edges which also needed to be pried up with a small screwdriver to get the gasket edge underneath. But I got it done! Thanks for the most excellent instruction to us DYIers.

Thanks so much for this video! I changed out the gasket on my freezer and everything was exactly as shown, and now it works perfectly. Instead of having to spend a grand + on a new fridge, it was less than a hundred dollars to get the new gasket to keep her going for another couple of years. The seal is perfect- even better than on the not-damaged fridge side! The whole operation took me and my kid half an hour.

I just did this with the gasket that does not have the metal lip, but one that came from a used unit. The ridge that embeds into the channel in the door requires that you have a plastic pry tool to lever the gasket under the door lip. I had one for other purposes, bought from Amazon, which is about half an inch wide with shallow steps along the pry side, and blue in color. It came in a multi-pack of pry shapes. This tool lets you more easily slip the ridge into the door channel. I did it with the door attached and it took about 45 minutes. It will require a lot of finger and forearm effort. The key with this type of gasket is to get a part of it near (but not on the corner) embedded first, because it’s impossible to force the corner in otherwise. The metal lip gasket is most likely designed for replacement purpose, as you won’t be fighting to squeeze the gasket in, but rather simply pushing straight without prying as the video shows.

Glad I found this video before removing my old gasket. New Gasket W10407212 for my Whirlpool french style refrigerator door is very similar to this one. If I would have just tried to pry off my old gasket as I saw in another video, it would have destroyed my inside door panel. All is well after watching this video and taking about 40 minutes to install.

Taking the door off - easy. Taking off the old liner - easy. Fitting the new gasket around the corners - an hour and a half of fits and starts, with lots of cussing along the way. By the time I finally got them fitted, two of the corner seams had split. These Whirlpool/Kenmore gaskets no longer ship with a rigid fitting to go under the lip - it's all soft gasket material and tears very easily. My suggestion - you can do all the work of taking things apart, but hire a pro to fit the new gasket. If it tears, it's on his dime.
@jrbutterfly312 жыл бұрын
ok an hour later, after much howling into an empty kitchen... bike tire levers sort of worked out ok. they're designed for getting the bead of a bike tire seated in the rim, and they're rounded so that they don't gouge the tire, so they were perfect for this. also it helped to loosen the screws holding the inner door panel, just a turn or two, so the edge of the channel was easier to lift, and then tightening them again once done with a section.

The one box was so tore up, the shipping invoice fell out of the box! A huge hole on the side! I ordered one for the fridge, and one for the freezer. Incredibly helpful. Not all these type seals have the hard plastic lip and they are a real difficult thing to get back into the door liner. I did mine without removing the door and man that bottom section made me crazy!!. I’d certainly recommend taking the door off for sure with this type of seal. All the seals are definitely not the same, particularly between manufacturers. You will need the correct part for your model of appliance. Unfortunately, we do not currently ship to the Philippines. However, the most reliable way of finding the correct part for your appliance is by searching using the model number. Once you know that, you should be able to look up the correct part for your appliance, then locate it either online or at a local parts retailer.

This deminstration is in fact outdated. There is a fourth screw to remove to get the hinge cap off. Look from directly on top of the cap. It's small and difficult to see unless your looking directly down from above. if you don't and try to pry it off you will break the plastiic cover. Secondly the removal of the old gasket is easy. The new gasket install is a S.O.B.... and impossible if you've never done it before. My advice, call a service man and watch and learn for the next time it may happen. After a couple hours of frustation I taped the gasket on and will call the service people tomorrow. The video made it look so easy. The ten minute change is a pipe dream. Don't do it.

Jane Henry Glad the video helped you get the gasket changed!

I just took off the old gasket and replaced it with a new gasket in literally 5 minutes!!! There is NO need at all to remove the door!!! That would have wasted time & energy!

How do I replace bottom gasket without removing the door?Cause it's really nearby floor. Is that more convient to replace the refrigerator if I lie it down on floor?

DPT- Of course taking the door off is optional. But I wouldn't say it is much wasted energy as there are only three bolts to be removed from the top and the bottom is just lifted off its holding peg. It is a lot easier to install the seal on a bench than having to lay down on the floor to install the bottom of the seal. I guess if you used a GPS to find an address they may give you instructions to take the interstate whereas Hwy 90 may get you to the same destination just a different route. Same thing here.

@@zedcartwright5267 LOL what a nonsensical bit of gibberish. It's having to empty everything out of the door as well as removing the bolts and then removing and reinstalling it vs getting down low and simply installing the new seal which is not that hard. Some people just like to do things the hard way.

Thank you. I was wondering what the point was to take the door off. No way I'm doing that lol.

Thanks for the tutorial. Question though is could my fridge be just not level and full of condiments on the tray thats why when we shut it it doesnt seal all the time or bounces back a bit leaving a small gap and we have press on the door to shut it or close it gently? Thanks again

I've got the same issue and I'm leaning towards the theory that my seal is just getting old and worn out. The extra weight of the items in the door and the fact that it gets used more that the freezer door is why I'm thinking that this seal might be failing sooner than the freezer door......I'm not an expert though and it's just a theory. I'm thinking about replacing my seal.

I checked it today and you could be right. The magnet doesnt stick quite as good as my other fridge so Im geting me a new seal from APP, hope that solves the problem. Thanks for your reply

This dude is trying to sell us something expensive. Heres the part number we need Part Number: AP4247867 . I found it here on youtube why the door is not shutting properly.

Mine did the same thing and found out it was the door cams. They were shot. I replaced them and the door closes on its own now.
