I had already taken my Maytag dryer apart before I found your video! I'd watched soooo many DIYer's vids - one guy didn't even take the laundry out before he removed the drum. And no one cleans the dryers before slapping them back together! Your video uses good lighting, an uncluttered appliance, and an easy to understand tutoria.l I'm ordering a new belt and 2 rollers from your company. I researched others but your prices are better or at least comparable! My hubby's insisting I hire someone - no way! I'll make him watch your video and think very hard about the money we'll save!

Great vid! Everything I needed to replace the worn roller that was screeching so badly I thought I'd have to buy a new dryer. Working good as new now and while everything was apart I was able to vacuum out all the caked-on lint from the blower fan and housing so it should dry faster now - Tks so much!

I've replaced the right side roller twice now. Each time, the plastic inside the roller has been melted so the outer rim came loose from the axle. The left roller is still in perfect condition. It seems this is from the heater, which is directly beneath the roller, causing it to destroy the plastic over time. Is there a metal wheel I can get, or a way to prevent the plastic from deteriorating? Or is there a place I can get these rollers in bulk? I'll probably go through 20 or 30.
@peterford9369
@peterford9369 Жыл бұрын
Hi, I didn't have to replace my roller, but do notice the roller on the right is the squeaky wheel, so to speak. I don't think it's the heating element causing the roller to fall apart. Make sure the shaft is solid and totally clean of rust or wear. This is bushing type roller. No bearings. So the steel bushing under the plastic hub is letting go because the bushing is somehow freezing up and the plastic spins on the bushing. You can try a bit of grease on the shaft after you pull the roller or, buy a kit that comes with a new shaft for each roller. Then you are sure of a new perfect fit. 3in1 oil is good too for the shaft before placing the roller on the shaft. Don't overdo it though. My shaft had some rust on it. So I used emery cloth on it and got the rust off and wired the bushing. Being cheap yes, but roller was in good shape other than rust. When you first throw in your wet clothes, its possible some moisture gets to the rollers. They are right there at the back of the drum. I'm sure you've dealt with it by now, but just in case, good luck 🤞

Hi, the dryer you're using as an example has a gasket on the front cover before the drum bulkhead. For the life of me i cannot find that gasket. My gasket is good but the grab piece at the joint is gone. How should I attach the gasket without the attachment piece? Maybe hot glue? Can you give me the name or item number of that gasket? Thanks

I have three questions: Mine doesn't squeak; however, I noticed a black rubbery substance on the top of my flame tube. 1. How do I know if it's necessary to replace just that one, both or not at all? Note, I plan on taking the dryer completely apart to clean it "thoroughly". 2. Do you recommend the expense cosidering my statement above and the the whole reason for dyi is cost savings? 3. Also, when the temperature is set to max, what is the proper time cycle for the for the flame after it ignites?

Doggoned Maytag driers use bushings in the support rollers instead of bearings. When they run our of grease, they squeak. No use changing them, you are replacing a bushing with a bushing, will still squeak in a year of so. Just grease it with lithium grease. I even stopped removing the roller. I just pull the front cover, reach in there with a spray can, and squirt the bushing. It goes squeak free almost as long as a new one. If I find a new drier with sealed roller bearing support rollers, I will buy it.
@appliancepartspros

The sleeve bearings in the center of the drum supports are sintered bearings and once they run out of oil they start to squeak. As long as they are not out of round you can of course try to grease them as you did, the main problems are it causes lint to collect and a lot of people say the grease wears out quickly and the squeaks come back.
@Bob_Adkins
@Bob_Adkins 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, exactly as you say. If I ever have to completely remove my roller souports, I will measure the bushing and shaft and get myself a sealed roller bearing. Should be a quick and easy press out-press in. I've done that on a few things including a cheap bushing fan motor, works great. eBay is an amazing source for bearings and bushings.

I'm sure you figured it out by now but for anyone in the future - there is just a single nut holding the shaft in place. You shouldn't even need to hold the shaft with vice grips or anything, just loosen the bolt then twist by hand

There are no "bearings" on this. I know because I took mine apart today. It's just two metal surfaces mating, and the old grease was dried on one of them. I took them both off, wiped off with acetone to remove the old grease, put some new quality grease on (just a little), and reassembled. It is totally not necessary to buy new part, in my opinion, unless you want to throw away your money. The video is useful to remind everyone how to take apart the device. The most confusing part is making sure the belt is on properly... just take a photo before removal. And say a little prayer of course.
