Would you like to whistle like a cardinal? Cardinals make several different whistling sounds and chirping sounds, too. Whistling can be especially fun. Start by pursing your lips as if you are going to kiss someone you love. Then you are going to blow out a little air - not a lot - with your cheeks sort of tight. The tip of your tongue will be against the bottom of your lower lip or just behind your lower teeth but the main, back part of your tongue near the top or roof of your mouth so there is a narrow passageway for the air to move out - almost as if your mouth is an instrument like a flute. Move your tongue slightly in position, trying it out, until a whistle starts. You may also want to chirp - and you can start by saying “chirp” in a higher pitch, then blurring the letters. Maybe the next time a red cardinal flies by you, you can whistle or chirp a greeting!
