This very important to do. I'm hosting my own private server for my friends for about 8 months now. When I check the server logs I found out several strangers joined the server without my knowledge.

Sometimes a user named "Matscan" will attempt to connect. This program scours the web for Minecraft servers to let them know anyone can enter. You can google the usernames you find in your server log.

Yes, thank you so much! Your tutorials helped me set up my server, but yesterday some random stranger made its way onto it. I panicked and stopped running the server immediately, and started looking for ways to avoid that happening again. Of course, I was happy to find the channel that helped me set up the server also had a whitelisting tutorial!

Thx, man. Created a MC server on an Azure vm and for some people joined it even though I didn't share the IP with anybody. Couldn't figure out why the whitelist wasn't working for me but it was cause I was an OP lol

When I try to join my own server, (I am an OP) it says I am not whitelisted. I am on 1.16.5 and my server is also on 1.16.5 and I still cannot join. When I try to add whitelist and ops, it ignores the capital letters and makes it look like this: (Example name) whitelist add RookieBoy69 and then it adds this: whitelisted rookieboy69 (no capitals) and I cannot join. Do you have anything that I can do?

@@eaglesdylan7169 Well if you're using a preview, it can be buggy. Try redownloading the latest optifine release for the Minecraft version you are using for forge and put it in the mods folder.
