Impressive, as always. They are making some nice looking chrome paints these days. But, I think the black and chrome caps will look sweet, too. Wheels take such a beating from rocks and stuff. Maybe powder coat them for durability.

I know it would probably cost a fortune, but a full chrome plated wheel would look killer! Aside from chrome a black or dark gun metal grey wheel with a chrome beauty ring and hub cap would definitely feel Era correct!

great video man, we used to do that years ago for grass track racing with beetles but also reduced the rim using 13 inch rims and beetle centers for better gearing. jook up hot rod racing ireland from the 80s in wexford on you tube we used all sorts of engines from 4 cyl fords fiats lancias to rover v 8s on vw bus gearboxs, great times.matt ireland.

Nice work. I'm a fabricator / car builder by trade, and this is a very reasonable, very clean way to do a job that's usually farmed out to specialists...if you can even find anybody with the skills these days.

Great vid ,,, really enjoyed it ,, I've done 100's of rims myself from banding to changing centers .. So getting to see someone else do it is always a joy ,, One little tip you may have not thought about , when doing rims ,, after they are welded and before paint I throw them on the wheel balancer and weld weight on the inside to balance the rim .... then when you install the tires you're only having to balance the tires ,, not the rim and the tires where in some cases can add alot of weight especially when doing large truck tires and rims .. factory rims are never straight or "true" I've seen so prity out of balance rims over the years common to see 2 or 3 ounces out ... & congrats on the channel i've been here since around 11,000 subs ,, and it's been awsome to see the channel grow soon to be 30,000 ! & a shout out to barefoot ,, lol

The car is yellow paint the wheels and matte Tan with the chrome hubcaps and the seats Tan as well. It's different not the same thing as everyone else but the wife is the final word either way the wheels look great.Take care Buddy.

In the 60's in the U.S.A. we used to make Punched wheels by just turning the centers around and the deeper part of the wheel would be on the outside , they were very cool in the day . Nice job !

Your grinding contraption reminds me of my whitewall contraption. I made a similar grinder mount to take thin stripe whitewalls and white letter tires and turn them into wide whitewalls! Forest engineering - even in the city! Great job Div!

Div, I commend you on your clever grinding fixture. Well-worth the effort to ensure a straight cut! I'm not really a fan of black wheels (even with the chrome caps) because in my opinion, they kind of blend in with the tires- no contrast. If you want a bit of contrast to show the rims without being overbearing, I like using a graphite or gunmetal colour. Just enough to separate the rim from the tire. Cheers from Canada!

Dear Dif. My first choice are yellow 💛 rims. Would look awesome with the original chromed hub caps. My second choice is silver or grey. I would not paint the rims black because they're not easy to keep clean (you have a lot of gravel/dirt roads in your region). Best regards, luck and especially health to both of you.

Hey Div, No Matter what color the Renubug is painted the black wheels will look great ! Polish the bejeebers out of the VW hub caps ( Yes that is what we call them here in the USA ). And if you could find some beauty rings and polish them as well they would look super great ! ( Side note ) I am fortunate enough to have a brake lathe that also works great for widening as well as narrowing wheels. But your rig is much cheaper and works 99.9% as good ! As a 14 year old I was making $5.00 apiece for widening wheels for the older guys. I made a rig similar to yours for cutting, as well as a big 6 inch grinder. I used an arc welder, as we did not have mig welder then . I also used a bubble balancer . Never had a comeback either. See You in the next video.

Black on the wider wheels might look "heavy" with only hub caps. Chrome trim rings would add some bling? White would look good if the car is staying yellow, or mid/light grey would also match.
