When we arm wrestled as kids, we had 3 rules. 1. Don't grip the table for extra help 2. Don't bend your wrist because it's cheating. 3. Don't use your bodyweight. It turns out that those rules don't exist in official arm wrestling. I'm not older than 21

Arm wrestling is very much a combat sport now, if those rules that you lay out were followed, you are only using muscle groups for shoulder internal rotation, and elbow internal rotation. But it's called arm wrestling for a reason. Sure you can win against people stromger than you if you you know just break their wrists but why would you? I was arm wrestling with my friend and she just went for my wrists too and 1. I don't really think it makes sense, defeats the purpose 2. You hurt the other person by applying all the force to their wrist which they obviously can't hold up against. We also had a rematch where we said we wouldn't use it and I won that one. But I'm very stubborn so even when my wrist hurt a lot a still didn't let go and I remember by the end of it it hurt so much I had to write the rest of my notes with my left lol.

One thing he failed to mention (and he absolutely must be aware of) is that he is standing while the student is sitting. As my mom would tell me while I sit down to knead or flatten dough, “Stand up! If you sit, all your strength goes to your butt!”. Speaking of flattening dough… now I feel pain in the wrist pushing on a rolling pin, and I think it’s related to the fact that I discovered that “relax the grip and lay the wrist back” cheat, and used it against strong guys. According to my instructor in a different sport, there is a tendon/ligament/soft tissue band that holds everything together in your wrist. If you lay your wrist back and put load on it, the band stretches and never recovers. I think that’s what happened to me. I am neither doctor nor an avid arm wrestler. I used that cheat maybe 5-10 times in my life, so I’d be very careful with that one. It’s possible there is a right and wrong way to do it, of course.

pronating your wrist is never a good thing - that is how a lot of people get carpal tunnel syndrome just from typing (over a significant amount of time though) - you're forfeiting the resistance of your wrist from your muscles to the physical bone and ligaments, which you shouldn't do, same way you shouldn't lock out any joints during pretty much any exercise

It's so easy to get away with a few cheats in drunk armwrestling 1. Pull your elbow closer towards you 2. Stand up 3. When pulling down, don't use your arm. Just lean down using your entire body and let the arm follow At 0:33 you can already see old guy's elbow is closer to the edge of the table than the opponent giving him the advantage

Maybe you shouldn't be arm wrestling then its not like it does anything for you financially or health wise.
@PaulsPickles3 жыл бұрын
@@whitealliance9540 It was solely due to position and following the guys advice in the video will break peoples arms. Look up How Not To Break You Arm by Coach Ray then you will see that what this guy is preaching is very uneducated knowledge. And saying for someone to stop armwresting bc of financial or health reasons then you are basically saying that you will only do the things you love if someone will pay you to do it. I make enough money and love arm wrestling enough to know what I did wrong and how to avoid it in the future as well as teach others how to avoid it. This guy may have been good in a local area competitions but he's no pro arm-wrestler. He didn't cover what a hook is, what a flop wrist press is, what a king move is, how to avoid injury, and most importantly how to set up from each position for the maximum amount of power from the start. They say that 1/3 novice matches at tournaments end up in broken arms bc of both people not having proper training on set up which this video showed me clear as day why people break their arms listening to people like this.

I knew this dirty trick so before I arm wrestle I tell a rule. "Dont use your wrist its cheating" I have been undefeated for 5 years
@r.e.t.o72263 жыл бұрын
why? are you scared, lol? the use of wrists is legal and people only forbid others from using it when they are afraid they'll lose. an example of that, is you. arm wrestling isn't just about pure bicep strength. there are many muscle groups that are involved, in fact. the biceps, the wrists, the forearms, the lats, the grip, the bicep tendons, pronator (if I'm not wrong) and so much more. isn't a dirty trick, btw. the only one playing dirty is you.
@Toasty_Toast.3 жыл бұрын
@@r.e.t.o7226 I just want to compare biceps strength and for this I find using you wrist cheating since it bypasses the point of the arm wrestling. Hows it a dirty trick when I want to compare a certain muscle strength? It isn't like arm wrestling has such strict rules in a casual setting that it has one strict definition. Also I appreciate you for at least knowing the muscles used!
@connorbutler84753 жыл бұрын
@@Toasty_Toast. If you want to just compare bicep strength, do a strict curl. Armwrestling is both combative and strength based, with you being at full liberty to use every part of your hand and arm within the rule-set.

I’ve done that last trick quite a few times, they always thought it was that I got tired and that I was about to lose and that’s why my wrist was in that position which meant they’d give it their all and tire themselves out while I wasn’t even trying.
@yaboicar77772 жыл бұрын
People please here me out… DO NOT ARMWRESTLE UNLESS YOU HAVE BEEN TRAINED OR KNOW THE RISKS. Please do not put yourself in a position where your shoulder is internally rotated while going against an opponent that is pushing against the forces of your shoulder (keep shoulder aligned with arm),don’t move your body closer like this guy said and if you can’t win just take the L. I just had a friendly arm wrestle with my friend and he shifted closer like this guy said and around the platform we were on and a sickening snap was heard and I had just broken his upper humerus. For reference we are the same weight, neither one of us are strongmen (but he is in weightraining) and he’s taller by minimum of 4 inches compared to me. The immense pain suffered from him and the guilt I felt is something I will never forget, please educate yourself and wrestle correctly or simply compete with some other form of strength test. I never thought this could happen but just goes to show this is dangerous and should only be done by someone who is trained. Know the risks and be careful. Look at videos of people who have gone through such an injury and know it is no joke.
