Seems like with the restriction on gear ratio, it's about the biggest chainring you can push. It's a climbers crit as power to weight trump's power. Great to see this type of course out there

17:03 as a crosscountry mountainbiker that rides over roads in order to get to my trail thats probably how I spend most of my riding time.

Hey guys, quick question. Whats the difference between “junk miles” and “adding volume” miles?? Like a 1-1.5 hr recovery ride at 60% FTP is good or bad? Is that junk miles or is that adding volume and beneficial??? Thx!
@TrainerRoad5 жыл бұрын
Hey Paul! "Junk miles" and "TSS filler" miles are basically the same thing, and can be either beneficial or not depending on what you are doing with the rest of your training. "Junk miles" is typically a phrase used when easy endurance riding is the ONLY riding that you are doing. If you are using easy endurance riding in addition to a structured training plan, then we would consider that TSS filler, and can be beneficial in increasing your volume without drastically increasing the difficulty of your training.

Ok thanks! So junk miles or Z2 miles, in conjunction with high intensity, intervals, SS, etc is an important piece of the puzzle and actually is beneficial. One last question, as a 50 year old, fairly competitive mtn biker who puts in decent effort both training & riding, is it better to have 3 hard efforts per week with 4 off days to recover & adapt, or 2 off days with 2 junk mile days of 60% FTP for an hour or 2? Or 3 days of junk miles and only 1 full day off (assuming within a month you still get multiple days off to avoid overtraining? I guess I am asking is days off more important than volume junk mile days or they be seen as kind of active recovery and almost like a day off???

You said that you have to use the same bike for the different races but are allowed to change wheels. what will happen if you crash and break your handlebars? will you be allowed to replace it or will you be out for the other races?
@TrainerRoad5 жыл бұрын
The rules only stipulate that you must use the same make and model bicycle for both the Fat Tire Crit and the Backcountry Race. This means that is you have an exact replacement for a broken part, you would likely be able to swap it out with permission from the officials.

Awesome, but those are the skinniest fat tires I've ever seen!
@TrainerRoad5 жыл бұрын
The racers are allowed to run tires as small as 1.5" (38mm) in the Epic Rides fat-tire crit, but that is the only modification that they are allowed to make between days.

@@TrainerRoad I know but "Fat tire Crit" had me imaging something else. Still awesome and thanks for putting the video together with the commentary and stats.
