At 6:58, where you said that the rule book states that it's okay to intentionally not charge rent, would you please provide an excerpt from the rule book which specifically says this? The only thing I found in the rule book related to this is _"The owner may not collect the rent if he/she fails to ask for it before the second player following throws the dice"_ but I would not interpret this as the owner doing this intentionally but rather unintentionally for whatever reason, whether they legitimately forgot, was being distracted, etc.

It's interesting to note on the "heat map" (2:30) that the light blues spaces are nearly as likely to be landed on as the "hottest" ones despite being on the "cold" part of the board. I already saw them being touted as top-notch spots in other guides but that just reinforces it for me.
@GD-Fabled8 ай бұрын
They're overestimated by go. But tbh the probabilites are not that big of a deal, yea the oranges are 17% more likely to be landed on but the light blues are twice as cheap
@hardyhousegames5 ай бұрын
Yeah, it's not really a huge difference huh. But in a game with so much change, any opportunity to mitigate risk is welcome.
@MrMelonsz5 ай бұрын
My brother got the full light-blue set very early game and I somehow survived and overturned the game by trading the last orange property off of him lol.
@GD-Fabled5 ай бұрын
@@MrMelonsz How much money did you have? Light blues cancel out go salary maybe and them some with bad luck, so you had to act quickly. But oranges are def the best set in the game once you have the set, the dark blues might be better to BUY because higher chance of getting the monopoly.

3:29 This may be a good idea in the Mega Edition since there’s Train Depots Which doubles the rent for that railroad which cost $100, plus the only reason why you can never get a Monopoly in these is because of Short line (since a Chance Card can’t send you there.) and those Railroad Chance Cards your opponents can get, you may wanna trade your Streets and Cash so you can get a Monopoly on Railroads, plus there’s 2 Chance Cards that sends a player to the nearest Railroad and charging double rent, so you may wanna get at least 2 (hopefully it’s something else than Short line, unless you have 3).

Not even joking, I genuinely like Monopoly. I think my favorite "anecdote" for the game is how everyone always complains how long the game is, and yet almost everyone plays the game so WRONG. IE, collecting taxes and putting them in the center of the board and re-distributing that money back to the players when they land on Free Parking or some crap. The idea of this game is to bankrupt other players, and when you're stocking the middle with free $500s or redistributing the money around to other players, OF COURSE it's going to take longer to play! Inflation is a bad thing in Monopoly. Anyway, good video!

Yeah, we've seen a lot of 'house rules' make the game ironically longer lol.

5:27 Don’t do this too fast though, there’s a Community Chest and chance card Called “Street Repairs” And “General Repairs” Which makes you pay for your buildings $40 per House and $115 per Hotel for “Street Repairs” (Community Chest) and $50 per House and $100 Per Hotel for “General Repairs”. Hey, just a question here. Did you use Markov chains to calculate the probabilities on the heat map? Did you account for the community and chance cards shifting the chances of being on any given spot at a time. I tried to and I got really different probabilities on the heat map.

Here's my strategy: Buy the brown, light blue and the dark blue ones. They'll profit you as much as the hot ones does if not more. I have played 6 matches in total and won 4 out of them. I don't know why people says that we need to buy orange and red properties to win because I never get those and still win lol
@GD-Fabled8 ай бұрын
Not a good strategy unless u starve everyone else outta houses.
@MrMelonsz5 ай бұрын
@@GD-Fabled Not necessarily. My little brother uses that strategy quite commonly even when there are plenty of houses to go around and he still succeeds. I would say it works best if you try to get these full colour sets very *early game* through trading. There are many ways for any strategies to work. Monopoly, just like life, is never linear. Every Monopoly game has its own specifications that require different solutions.
@GD-Fabled5 ай бұрын
@@MrMelonsz The strategy really shines in 5-6 players though imo. If you think about it if you max the sets out they're basically the pinks but cheaper to upgrade. And with more players stalling houses is even more effective. However the strategy still has issues bankrupting often if your opponents have decent properties, but it's really good to use up go money.
@Basilseed244 ай бұрын
I also play this strategy (light blues, browns) mostly bc its cheap, nobody wants them and IMO they get landed on quite often. You can buy homes fairly quickly for these properties. Yes we all know dark blues have high value but the odds are low and high demand.
@GD-Fabled4 ай бұрын
@@Basilseed24 "Landed on quite often." So apparently jail doesn't matter? Taking people one space past the entire set? Are we going to sit here and deny the oranges are a 50% land from jail?

@williamking780011 ай бұрын
Oranges live up to the hype, reds do NOT. There's more to how good a property is than how often they're landed on, and $150 per house is a lot worse than $100 (or $50). Reds are the second worst set in the game, better than greens and tied with yellow. Although they're only slightly worse than the magentas and the dark blues.
@GD-Fabled8 ай бұрын
Yep, 100%. To be fair reds are barely better than yellows. Look at the probability distributions; the reds are only landed on 5% more while the yellows rent is 10% more. But the rent is much better. And everyone goes on and on about buy price but that doesn't really mean much when you'll probably be trading anyways.
@stevef4930 Жыл бұрын
Ok I’m gonna be real with you. At about 4:20, you said to auction a property that you know someone really wants. I can not express how bad of a tip this is. If you actually buy the property and sell it to them, you can get a piece of the cake. By going to auction, you receive no benefit. I honestly cannot take any of your monopoly advice seriously
@hardyhousegames Жыл бұрын
I didn't set this up as a fine-set rule, but a suggestion based on the circumstances. If you auction in this case every time, you're missing my point. What I'm getting at with this tip is that if you force the opponent to buy the property for a much higher value, their bank account could get low enough to kill their game. You don't win this game strictly by making money. You win by making everyone else so poor they lose. I've seen players get so fixated on getting a specific property that they ruin themselves financially to get it and lose pretty soon after when they have a heavy rent to pay. You need to be socially savvy to understand if your opponent is desperate enough to accidentally bottom out their cash. It works. That said, I love your suggestion to buy and sell it to them for higher. If you can get them to buy it at double the price, that's great! I've just seen people be more opposed to bottoming out their bank account when they know the money is going to an opponent. When it's up for auction, they're more inclined to spend more because they only see it as a benefit to themselves and not to an opponent. As for the rest of the tips in this video, check out my references in the description. These tips aren't just my own. They come from monopoly champions, game analysts, learnings from AI, etc. This video will absolutely up your Monopoly game if you give it a chance.
@stevef4930 Жыл бұрын
@@hardyhousegames I understand your point actually. I wasn’t considering how someone would be less likely to buy from an opponent as opposed to the bank

This is just a sad game, last time i tried it after not playing it since i was a kid, we were 4 players, player 1 got a hot streak of high dice right out of the gate, and bought every property he landed on, game was won in round 2. What could fix it is either players start with less cash or make property more expensive.
@hardyhousegames5 ай бұрын
For sure. Honestly I'd like to see more choices in general. Like what if movement was in some sort of deck building mechanic? Or maybe all players choose 3 properties at the beginning (like Catan), then they have limited moves based on the properties they own. I dunno, a lot could make this game actually fun lol..
