@@happywednesday6741 I think you are fundamentally misunderstanding how GTO works though. What does a "pure odds" play mean? because pure odds plays change drastically between different players. When you go into a solver you have the ability to nod lock which changes the inputs for your opponents. this in effect is how GTO players develop exploitative plays. people online seems to make an erroneous distinction between GTO and developing exploits that doesn't actually exist.

Hey Doug i have a questio, it seems like Nick is saying that he calls hands like AA and KK and don't jam them preflop to protect his calling range (for instance in the KJs hand and the AQo hand), is that accurate? Doest it make sense not to jam those hands along with some bluffs? Seems like a miss of EV to me but i'm really curious about this.

Hes saying in this position, utg vs utg 1. Once youre in position facing a 4bet at this stack deoth he says theres no need to 4bet. This is probably bc 4bet bluffing here is pretty suicidal, so then you shouldnt just shove your value

any merit in 85-90% ing pot on river in first hand? Ranges seem more so inelastic with his holdings that we expect folds and it leaves us with a 10 ish bb stack when we do get called and we don't really have to worry about being bluffed obviously?

I get that, in the first hand discussed, bluffing full pot vs a weak river range is the most effective way of getting a fold. But for the sake of balance, since we're repping a hand like Tx or JJ here, how could we expect to get a call with those hands vs A-high? Whenever I hero call, it's because villain's massive sizing doesn't make sense vs the weak hand that he purportedly wants to get value from.
@juusokoskela7075
@juusokoskela7075 5 жыл бұрын
Brad Stollery didn’t listen to audio, but surely we are repping a stronger hand than Tx here, QQ-AA and small freq of TT 88 preflop makes sense
@ericstollery1
@ericstollery1 5 жыл бұрын
Can't have QQ-AA, we just flatted IP pre. But again it doesn't matter what we can have, what matters is that villain is capped so we shouldn't expect him to be able to call a big river bet (therefore it's suspicious if we bet large, because what can we get value from?).
@erikkoch1923
@erikkoch1923 5 жыл бұрын
We can definitely have some traps pre. And also the reasons you listed make jamming for thin value pretty attractive. Important thing is we’re balanced and make his decision with the middle and lower parts of his range a total nightmare.
@juusokoskela7075
@juusokoskela7075 5 жыл бұрын
This hand was UTG vs UTG+1 in a bubble between 2 big stacks. For sure there is no 5bet shove range here (at least in theory) as villain is already repping KK+. Guess villain should find some calls from his 4bet bluff range that has a pair (eg. AT) and check some AA/KK also that he can call down with. However as the ranges get this narrow it's really hard to say whats the best action. Villain should have an ultra small frequency of practically every hand he opens to balance out like 12 value combos

I’d be curious to see how often these 1/4, 1/5th type bets actually work. They seem kind of odd to me when your opponent sometimes needs only 20% to continue. What are we trying to accomplish with them? I found this video very confusing.

Summary: Play pots in position and capitalize on weakness post flop. Why complicate things? This is a pure position exploitative play. And this is why you 3 bet shove or 4 bet shove out of position pre against elite players like Nick. Otherwise, you will be abused like an escort girl. As for the last hand, yes it is good to flat the BB with T7o and flop top two on a dry board, go for a check raise, bet and bet, and somehow get stationed by C.Darwin to the moon with Q7. AKA, how to win poker tournaments lolz.

Yea early in the game that's a good strategy, what do you do mid-game when everyone is going all in even with hands like 9,10 suited. That's where I always get busted out, I can outplay opponents, but I can't luck out on them.

"Why complicate things? This is a pure position exploitative play" ~ Nope, incorrect mate. You're logic is hella flawed here. Pure position exploitive play is an oxymoron & some word salad, a reflection of your 'keep it simple' approach me thinks
@ChannelJoeE
@ChannelJoeE 5 жыл бұрын
Takiowns Poker Clearly, you know nothing about escort girls. Well, I guess it depends on the price... But, escort girls are not abused. Not in the slightest. They are treated to nice dinners, get to spa in a fancy hotel rooms and lovingly caressed and loved by discerning gentlemen with to much money and not enough love for their wives. Those who do (figuratively speaking) 3 or 4-bet shove an escort girl will more than likely get absolutely gang bashed by a bunch of men who will turn up at your door the next day. Plus, if you're going to 3 or 4-bet shove against elite players, you're at least hoping for at least AK or AQs. Ideally, you'd want AA, KK. QQ is debatable. Elite players can raise with all sorts of junks, but they don't always have junks. It'll be highly unadvisable to 3 or 4-bet shove with any speculative hands, because someone could have easily flatted Nick's raise with AA or KKs. You gotta worry about other players on the table as well. In online freeroll, people 3 or 4-bet shove with K4o, J6o, heck, 64o all the time. And win a great number of times. But, in live settings (and where actual money/tournament life is concerned), people are a bit more discerning. Shoving 20 to 30BBs will get people to fold most of the times. But, really, are you willing to risk your entire stack on a coin flip, 40/60, 45/55? Or even run the risk of losing 1 out of 5 times with AAs?

I felt the same. Seems completely unnecessary to take a stand in that position period. I dont think you're losing any value by just folding it preflop.

Is there even a point to this post? It is well known that online and live poker are very different beasts. Chris Moorman, who absolutely crushed online tournaments has not had as much impact live. Conversely, Justin Bonomo hasn't had any impact in online poker. Poker is all about finding your edge. If Nick Petrangelo felt that he was better suited to live, why bother wasting time and money trying to prove himself online?

@@DavidMaskrey For sure he did. I was comparing their comparative achievements. Chris Moorman has won some huge live tournaments and raked in over $5 million in live earnings. But, compared to his online achievements in the period of time he did is nothing short of remarkable. Maybe, Bonomo could've ended up being one of the online legends that will live throughout online poker history had he not been banned from Party Poker and Pokerstars. But, I think people will remember him more for his live achievements than his online ones, the former being simply incredible.

Hi, I am Canadian about to begin playing low stakes online. Can I get your advice on a few things via this thread or email? What sites do you play on or recommend for NLHE cash games? Tourneys? Best Rake back? Easiest player field? Do you use HUD? PokerTracker or Hold'em Manager? Why that one? Thanks 😀.

LightOn Stillwaters - Hey what’s up! Glad to hear you’re playing! Since you are in Canada, I would recommend playing in the big sites, Party Poker and PokerStars. I certainly use a HUD if allowed. I like Hold Em Manager 3. Just really easy to use and very efficient. I okay both cash and tourneys, I would suggest choosing 1 first. If you want to minimize variance, your best bet is cash-games. Full ring is probably easier but 6-max is where most people play. I also suggest subscribing to a training site. Upswing is one of the best ones, I use Jonathan Littles pokercoaching.com via Evan Jarvis @Gripsed.
