I've been informing myself about mecanich/automatic watches (I've acquired two nice Fossil ones) and before giving them propper use I'm learning about them all I can. I've been watching several videos and this is the first time someone mentions that if I give it too many turns to the crown when winding it, it will be broken. So, thanks for that.

Don't keep winding until it doesn't wind anymore, that's overwinding. You also don't want to do quick rotations like that, it'll damage the mechanics....

I have an old Valory watch that has been rebuilt. In my past, I had a watch that I would wind by going forward and back while winding. Someone told me to wind that way. However, with this watch, I must have damaged it because I can still wind it in the proper direction but not in the reverse. Is that a big issue? It seems that rotating it in the reverse damaged it in some fashion.

I know you are not a watchmaker (I read the comments ;) ), but I was wondering if you had an answer to my problem: I received a mechanical watch which is running too fast (1.3 seconds too fast). Is this fixable? Thank you and great video!
@andy86i8 жыл бұрын
I was completely unfamiliar with the old fashioned concept of winding a watch until today. My dad had a 1950's Swiss Made Garrard watch presented to him by his workplace, and after he died it stopped. We all thought the watch had stopped, as in not working. I can't believe all I had to do was turn the crown. It's running now. until tomorrow I suppose.

Mine doesn't stop turning even if I have wound it up over 40 rounds. It runs ok when being worn but it stops soon after I take it off and put it on the table. Or when I am asleep or not moving hand for a while. Frustrating. I have 8 wristwatches, all but this one are on batteries. But I love this one the most. I wish it could last for at least a week before the next winding.

I have a stuhrling watch that is skeleton (I can see through) and is automatic, is it good? Also what's the difference bite automatic and mechanical
@TheRoodDude7 жыл бұрын
Imma Turkey well the difference between an automatic and a mechanical is that an automatic watch contains a rotor which powers the watch as you wear it, you'll never have to hand wind an automatic as long as you shake it up or just simply wear it every day or so. As for the stuhrling I would not buy one as they are a watch that seems to fake their heritage, they are chinese made and not really a German watch. if you are fine with that then great; however, I would be worrying about being ripped off for one since chinese automatics can cost under 20 dollars.

Hello there, I have a Tissot Skeleton watch. Can you please tell me why mine said 46 hours of reserve power when fully wound up, but when I take it off, it usually stops. Does it need to be wound daily or maybe I got a defective one? Thanks much.
@theinternetguy1006 жыл бұрын
khoiquach can you manually wind it? Does it have a gauge of the power reserve? Depends on how long you’ve worn it. How much it charged itself.
@khoiquach6 жыл бұрын
it is manually wind, and the manual said up to 46 hours of reserve. So even if I don't wear it, it should running like 24 hours at least when fully wound up right?

Hi, I was am in the midst of replacing my watch dial but i have an automatic movement. would you have any idea as to how to "turn off" my watch so that i can get the movement to shut down as i replace the hands and dial?
@TopStrikerMaverick8 жыл бұрын
I strongly suggest to first shut off the co-axial escapement by bejeweling the balance wheel. But make sure that it's not in the reverso cycle, or else all the gears may break loose. This is mostly seen in the omega speedmaster. What watch do you have?
@PlNKwink9 жыл бұрын

@husnaazrain18289 жыл бұрын
which 1 did you prefer? mechanical or auto
@theinternetguy1009 жыл бұрын
Automatics are easier if you are wearing it all the time since the movement of your arm will wind it. But for skeleton watches, mechanical ones are better since there is no rotor in the way of the movement. So it depends on what you are looking for, sometimes I prefer mechanical (for skeleton ones) but most of the time I generally prefer automatic because if its always on your wrist it wont stop and will continuously be given power.
