I haven't been draining the water before putting in antifreeze, but will try that this year. I pull the thermostat before running the antifreeze in and fogging, so that I know for sure that it's flowing.
@Fast3513 жыл бұрын
Yeah make sure you do. RV antifreeze is not designed to be mixed. If you're not in a real cold area you're probably OK but here in MN it gets down to -30 some nights, you want to make sure that stuff is 100%, not diluted.

Did he not have antifreeze in the motor? What did he drain out? My boat already has antifreeze in it.

Have the same engine since 1998. GT40 version. I drain water as shown plus the trans cooler which he didn't even mention. I have never added antifreeze and our winters in Canada see 40 below.
@Fast3513 жыл бұрын
Good video. Only thing I would add is that on top of draining the engine, make sure your trans cooler is drained! Instead of removing the hose from the engine side of the trans cooler, I disconnect the lake side from the cooler and drain. Then I hook a hunk of hose to the trans cooler and suck the antifreeze in that way. Don't forget the strainer bowl too.

89 MC Prostar 190, Indmar 351. I have never used antifreeze, just drain the manifolds and the block and hoses. (And much more.) As far as the junk that collects in the rear of the manifolds, I have a 2-3 inch strong rod magnet, so I just stick that in the hole and get the rusty gunk out, been doing it for nearly 20 years, and the quantity of gunk decreases to nearly nothing every year. I think I am going by the book, maybe the antifreeze helps prevent rust.

Antifreeze absolutely helps with rust

What state do you live in? How cold is your winter? I’m in RI and don’t Have antifreeze in right now but drained it.

Thanks Vince! Very helpful. Question, how does the rv antifreeze get into the engine if the thermostat is closed (assuming you don't get it warm enough to open the thermostat)? Or are you not intending it to get into the engine?
@job622624 жыл бұрын
Exactly what I was thinking. He did not mention to make sure you get the engine up to temp to open the thermostat. Unless the engine gets up to temperature and the thermostat doesn't open the antifreeze will not get into the entire engine.
@gibsonn144 жыл бұрын
@@job62262 Draining the block should drain about all the water on the other side of the thermostat so really its not a big deal whether its open or closed. Also if it's a closed cooling engine then the only thing going through the thermostat is coolant
@krisnowak43 жыл бұрын
The water does not go into the engine thru the thermastat. The thermastat prevents cold water from leaving the engine, the raw water pump will directly fill the engine till it's full, then pump excess antifreeze out the exhaust. As the engine heats up, the thermastat will open a slight amount and let some hot water out, which is replaced with cold water from the raw pump. Running a boat wide open across a lake does not fully open your thermastat.
@barefootrocker2 жыл бұрын
@@krisnowak4 can you describe the path of the raw water from the lake into the engine block with the thermostat closed?
@Warthog3333 жыл бұрын
I have the same engine, but it’s fuel-injected. Being in NC my dealer told me fogging is unnecessary (not cold enuf). Also, I pour out the water in the water filter. You didn’t show that. RE the plugs, I grease the threads before reinstalling.

Did he not have antifreeze in the motor to start with?? What did he drain out? My boat already has antifreeze in it.
@dzopf Жыл бұрын
Nope. Raw water sucked in from the lake and blown out through the exhaust. You must have a closed loop system with a heat exchanger.

My motor is throttle body injected, where do I apply my fogging oil? I have a master craft sport star 19 with a 305 motor.
@skidim81434 жыл бұрын
You can do it the same way. Since its multi-port you should NOT spray it through the air intake.
@brett75624 жыл бұрын
So fog each cylinder separately?
@skidim81433 жыл бұрын
@@brett7562 Yes fog each one individually through the spark plug hole, once the fluid is in the 8 cylinders you turn the engine over once and put the plugs back in.
