How to Winterize Inboard Boat Engines and Generator

After we winterize the fresh water systems, winterizing the boat engines and generator engine is one of the final steps to preparing our boat for winter storage. Captain Brian shows how we winterize our CAT 350 twin diesel inboard engines (a process that works for gas or diesel boat engines). He's been doing his own winterization for over 20 years (over 10 years on our current 410 Sea Ray Sundancer) and even uses a DIY strainer covers for easy hose hook-up when adding antifreeze to the engines. Sure it’s a temporary hose connection we made for the top of the strainer - we made it to size for our boat out of some wood.

You have 2 outlets on the brass fitting. What is the second one for? How is the brass fitting connected to the wood? What is holding it it the hole in the wood?

The hose fitting is just friction fit into a hole in the wood. I added the Y adapter simply to provide a quick shutoff valve and an angled swivel. The second side of the Y serves no purpose.
