How do you change out the water in the winter? I've been thinking of getting ducks but worried about the logistics of keeping swimming water available. Specifically: 1) Where do you drain the water to? Wont it just create a lot of ice? 2) How often do you change out the water? 3) How do you change out the water? Seems like you would need to run a hose out there each time you wanted to give them fresh water, which means either draining the hose each time so it doesn't freeze up or bringing it back indoors after you are done. Can you do a video on swimming water maintenance in the winter time?

The drain runs out of the pen and creates a massive ice glacier down in the lower lawn swamp area and yes it's a ton of ice The water always gets changed at least 1 a day if they aren't in lockdown, but if they are out playing sometimes as much as 2-3 times in a day or I leave the hose running. the garden hose is stored in an outdoor heated bag so it won't freeze through out my daily vlog during the winter you can see the set up in action, unfortunately in this part of the world having water in the winter is a hard job and requires a lot of trial and error

So. Is your duck pen covered ? We have a lot of raccons, possums, foxes etc. Are you not bothered by critters get into the duck area ?
