Hi, this video shows you a really easy way to wire up your own cables for either SKY, Virgin media Cable TV or Cable Broadband. It uses F Type Snap and Seal connectors and you can buy the tools needed for around £11 and the connectors are also relatively cheap. It gives a nicer more professional finish compared with the twist on F plugs and is very easy to do.
Many thanks Vince

Props to you for actually explaining the internal mechanics of the connectors, not just saying "push it on and crimp it with the tool" like so many others. Your explanation finally clicked it for me. Well done

Bought the compression tool first then saw the video. I've changed co-ax plugs for years BUT! Virgin TV use the larger F type connectors as shown in the video so I bought some via E-bay as well as the tool. Followed the video and bingo! I was able to shorten the Virgin cable due to re-location of TV and now have a perfect picture as previously bought F type connectors were too small. Great video, informative and showed precisely the correct manner how to strip back modern co-ax cable in order to get perfect reception. Home d-i-y'er.

Excellent video. The roofers snipped my TV antenna wire and I need to do a repair. I got the tool kit off Amazon along with the male "joiners". I feel more confident crawling into the hot fiberglass filled attic. I'll be on my hands and knees. Thanks so much.

It is important to emphasize the need to prevent any of the braiding wires from touching the central connector. When you fold the wires back be sure to fold all of them. Even one small wire will cause a short.

I decided this time to make my own cable lengths, went to get some supplies and bought a Belden Coax F-Connector Installation kit. Was supposed to be an all-in-one. Instructions were useless (for a person being introduced to this) spent half a day going to the Belden web site (definitely for pros only). internet and you tube with no success. Your video was spot on for someone like me. Thanks

First rate demonstration, definitely a professional who not only articulates well but ensures that the video clearly displays the intent of each step. Like others who have commented about other DYI videos which were well intended but short on correct procedures, Vince's video is head and shoulders above. Well done!

Point to watch with a cheap non-adjustable tool like the one shown is it must have the correct fully closed distance for the compression connector used. It can sometimes be marked on the tool - mine's 21mm which seems to cover a lot of connectors including the Cabelcon CX3 sealed ones I wanted it for. It's the distance when compressed from the inner face that the core insulation has to be flush with to the far end of the connector, not the overall length including the nut. There are adjustable tools but they're around double the price of the fixed ones.

Awesome vid, very detailed. Thank you so much! (I "liked" the video, just because you mentioned cutting the copper bit [I'm a girl-person, so thats the technical terminology 😁] at a 45° angle 😎 It's the little hints that impress me 👍) Edit: I've just gone through some of your other video content, you have gaming console hints and tips, internet stuff...good channel. I just bought a Nintendo Switch yesterday, who knows I might need to have a look if I run into any problems. I have all the other consoles too (PS3, PS4, PSP, PS Vita, Wii, Wii U, DS, 3DS XL, Xbox 360, Xbox 360 with Kinect, Xbox One - so let's see what tips you've got for them 😉) SUBSCRIBED...essentially - just because of the 45° angle tip. Heheheheh! Thanks Mate 🤗

Thank you for a detailed video. i bought a RCA kit with a crimp tool and 10 connectors, the instructions were incomplete at best. I expected the crimp tool pull the cable into the connector ... not so, you have to do the work on the front end.

I can tell the cable you have is a quality piece since there is copper foil, brad, center conductor bends easily. Can you tell me if that is standard where you are in England ??? Thanks for the 45 degree angle cut for easy insertion fella. I have not heard about using this technique anywhere except here on your KZbin channel.

The instructions for my DataShark (Stirling) compression tool explicitly instruct to NOT remove or fold back the inner foil. In terms of transmission line theory leaving the foil intact will present a more stable impedance through the connector.

Hi Mate ... when you cut the copper core to a 45 degree angle doesn't that reduce the size of the mating surface and as a result hurt the signal?
@Mymatevince
@Mymatevince 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, when the copper core goes into the female F Type Socket then the f type socket pinches onto the sides of the copper core so the 45 degree angle just allows it into the socket a bit easier but the actual contact comes from the sides of the copper core. Thanks.

Hi Vince could you help I currently have two Sky boxes one in my room and one in my bedroom. I asked my cleaner to reorganise the bedroom but what I did not think about is the sky Ariel cable and now it's not long enough. I need another 5 meters is they anyway you could supply me with the extension I need I would be happy to pay via PayPal or bank transfer. I am not sure what I need but I see they is two cables so I would need to extend them both. Hope this makes sense and you can help I do not have a clue what to do regarding this it also is not an easy thing to put my bedroom back to the way it was as we have had an internal wall built for unsweet. So you're help is hugely appreciated. Thanks kind regards Leigh

Hi, the cables going into the back of my Sky Box were done vert badly, the F-Connectors are always falling off and the central conductor is cut too long. I was thinking of cutting new ends like you do here but I'm worried I don't have enough length in the cable to play with, i.e. if I cut off more of the cable then they won't reach the box. Is there any way to extend the length of the cable without messing the signal? Thanks

@BL4Z3D247_
@BL4Z3D247_ 6 жыл бұрын
Robstunner you don't need to take that most inner foil off, the foil is there to protect the dielectric and prevent any bleed through. I've installed tons of dishes and terminated tons of coax. Everything else in the video is spot on but removing the most inner foil around the dielectric is incorrect.

unfortunately the cheap tools advertised here (15-20$) available on amazon do not work (compression unsuccesful, the wire comes out easy afterwards). the only way not to throw money away is to buy a semi-pro compression tool, much more expensive (40-50$ range). at least your cables will last this way.
