This is dope and a big help with my X18 midbike restoration/ engine swap project. I’ve been needing some help with this thing because she is straight up cooking through every head and tail light I install. Now after looking back over all of the wiring it appears that the fuses have been deleted from the harness? But it’s running a 12v half wave rectifier. Would it hurt anything to run fuses on the power supply wires for the head and tail light while running a rectifier at the same time?

Thanks was looking for a simple way to do this. Cheers! By the way, once you put it on the bike are you grounding to the frame or still gonna ground to the negative battery terminal?
@Ripsky7 жыл бұрын
no problem man. if you are just powering the led then i would just ground it to the ignition coil instead of the battery just because its closer to the front of the bike. grounding to the battery is the best way but the ignition coil should work just as good.

Okay so I’m a noob to wiring and I have a few questions. What is that type of fuse called? Is there a certain gauge wire you have to use? And can this be done directly to the battery of the bike? (I have a TTR 225 so it has electric start and has an existing fuse) any help would be much appreciated thank you!
@Ripsky6 жыл бұрын
It's called a in-line fuse. I'm not exactly sure on what gauge is needed. i wouldn't use anything super thin tho. yes you should be able to wire it straight to the battery. FYI I'm not a expert on wiring or anything just something i did on my bike a while back and ended up working.

@@tonytowers5863yeah that should be fine. the fuse is just there so your fuse will blow before your wire gets too hot. also with your headlight, there is a fuse box located under your seat depending on what year 650 you got, and if it's not under your seat it should be located somewhere under or near your headlight. you could check if one of those blew out.

@Ripsky7 жыл бұрын
on a dirt bike in has an alternator that charges your battery when its running so your battery shouldn't die. if you don't have a battery then you will have to buy either a 6 or 12 volt rechargeable battery separately depending on how many volts your light is

Where is your relay.. and then go about hooking it up properly to the light and you don't just hook a fuse directly to a toggle switch your asking for a short circuit or for the switch to get hot and also without your relay in there it does not supply the proper voltage to the light
@Ripsky2 жыл бұрын
I have used this wiring method on multiple projects over the years with zero problems. I do not think a relay is needed for something small like this. if I was wiring a really high amp light or multiple lights hooked up to one switch then I would probably use a relay.
