Today I show you a fairly simple way to wire up Otis series 1 buttons by creating custom lower voltage LEDs and hooking up the circuit boards.
I made a video in the past showing how to wire these buttons, but I did not wire them as nicely and as permanently as in this video. If you don't have all of the materials necessary (Leds, connectors, etc), have a look at my other video and see if it helps: • Alternate Method of Wi...
This button originally had one of Otis's serial control boards, and I wanted to wire it up without using that board. I figured it was a perfect opportunity to make a more updated (and better) video on how to wire Otis series 1 by installing some different circuit boards.

Awesome! I think I know which one you got haha. If it’s the one I saw, it uses one of those RS boards which is different from this.

Now that you’ve got some of the serial boards, you have a weapon against Otis. Threaten to decode it and they’ll do you a favor lol

I don't think that's how it works.

Looking at the back box thing that the circuit board gets screwed in to, it actually looks a little different to what my new call button uses

You can tell which leg is positive and negative as if you looked very closely the positive leg is longer than the negative leg(don’t say they are the same length as they are not the same length!)

Great video! Is there a way you could make the LED come on with a press, then require another press to turn it off again? That would be even more awesome! I'm guessing it would be complicated though. :-)

You could use an SCR to make the button remain illuminated when the button is pressed. You could then use another button (or keyswitch) to turn it off. If you want the same button to both turn the LED on and off, I would suggest googling 'flip flop momentary button' and going from there. If you want to achieve the same thing with a relay, google 'latching relay circuit' instead.

Yeah a latching relay would work, but again, you would have to find a way to disable it.

@@stlelevators Not necessarily, you can make a latching relay that only requires one momentary button (kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIexc3tviM6opbc). Granted the circuit also requires diodes and resistors, but it shouldn't be too bad. Also STL, I think it would be really cool if you did some sort of latching circuit demonstration in one of your elevator part wiring vids! Maybe do it with one of your Schindler HT's. Button latches when pressed and is reset when fire service is in bypass position.

Yeah that's a fairly simple design. I might be able to come up with something to use it in.
Otis clone or just a very common button style?
