A male parrot does that because he knows the female will lunge at him and possibly give him a nasty bite if she isn't feeling the vibe. If you watch a longer clip of parrot mating rituals, it's basically a repetition of the male suavely sidling up to the female to shoot his shot and then hurrying back to a safe distance over and over until he feels secure that he's not going to get his ass kicked.

Birds are pretty smart and pick up on that fast! We had a budgie when I was a kid, and while she never spoke or made a lot of human-imitating sounds, she picked up quickly that kisses were good things and made smooch noises all the time. The funniest was that she just thought being loud was being happy, so if family members would start having a loud disagreement, she'd be in the other room making kiss noises and happily bobbing her head. 🤣

There are a few species of parrots that not only learn words and phrazes but, from watching us can learn the proper context in which to use them. Just a couple examples: Military Macaw and African Greys. You might enjoy looking up Dr Pepperberg and her work with Alex(African Grey). He had a vocabulary of over 100 words. He knew colors, numbers, shapes, and what things were made of. He also greeted Dr Pepperberg every morning and said goodnight to her at the end of the day.

They're great fun for the right owners, but put some real thought into it before getting one and really research the species you want before buying. Dumb birds are pretty and lower maintenance, but not as fun and usually dont learn fun stuff well or even never. The smarter birds not only can do more but also are proportionally higher maintenance. A canary won't care if you ignore it or rehome it as long as its needs are met. Stuff like this ringneck, a larger parrot, a macaw, or a corvid is a much different thing. Some birds can be as smart as a 5+ year old child. Some may live up to 80+ years. Smart birds that dont get enough interaction and mental stimulation can be very psychotic. Birds can also be vindictive and are notorious for not forgiving you if you get on their bad side. And when it wants to sink its claws in you or try to bite your finger off, it not only knows what it's doing, it has been planning on doing it. If you really want a bird to act like this prepare to spend hours interacting with it daily, never act harshly to it even once, and with the really advanced ones it is best if it is not alone very long or often at all. And take lifespan of the bird into account because after they tightly bond with owner(s) they may difficult or impossible to rehome. My ex and I had a blue fronted Amazon. We split up after 8 years. Prior to the split Ajax was a happy bird that talked, sang, did tricks, and liked to cuddle. When I moved out he stopped eating, started screaming all day, and was tearing out his feathers. He was mad at my ex, and would lunge at his face or bite hard enough to draw blood. So he called me to come and get him, which I did, only to experience the same treatment. He was not wanting to accept any outcome that didn't involve us BOTH being there together to play with him in the evening. We ended up having to rehome him to a friend that didn't work and had the time and patience and experience to rehab an enraged and depressed bird because he never got over being royally peeved at us both.
