The smoke on that glass shows that your burning very wet wood or your airwash vent is closed down too far. It should never get that bad. Any cleaning agent with ammonia in it will clear that smoke right off.

I use windex on my glass every morning to clean it. It comes out very clean. You have to remember to do it every morning before you start your fire.

Yes cleaning the glass every day is the best practice. Thanks for the tip

You can do a top down fire to start by putting the kindling on top. The glass is easier to clean when it is warm. I didn't know about the enamel.

I just use water and cleaning vinegar and it comes right off. But I usually don’t have an issue I don’t know.. 🤷♂️ Also get yourself a good butane torch for lighting. They last years and make it a lot easier!!

Was very surprised at how close the burner is to the wall. I have only seen brick or stone as fire walls, or even free-standing arrangements, to avoid risk of fire. I'm sure there's a way to fireproof the 2 walls. It sure looks risky to me...

I think it's a Hearthstone stove, and since they're lined on the inside with soapstone, the outside doesn't get as hot as other cast iron stoves. They have the closest wall clearances of all stoves on the market.

i use that powder you just throw on the fire and is supposed to prevent creosote. Burning that powder also clears the glass so you don't actually need to clean it.

how many times did it take to feel comfortable with everything?
@bascofamilyfarm9 ай бұрын
Feeling comfortable came pretty quick. Being able to start a fire was the biggest learning curve. To make a fire you have to build it well with the best materials otherwise you may be there for over an hour with no fire.

If your ceramic is that nasty, your wood is wet. Wood needs to age for at least a year or it burns poorly.

@@johnbriscoe5932 Thank you for your comment. You are right. Being in the south and still getting established on our property we lack a good spot to store wood to dry it/ keep it dry.

The stove looks SO (too close) to the wall.??
@bascofamilyfarm9 ай бұрын
We followed what the owner manual said but we were also working with an existing chimney location. Here is the manual hearthstonetech.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/hearthstone-craftsbury-ii-8392-manual.pdf

@bascofamilyfarm the owners manual is crap! Call the fire Marshall. That stove is illegal. You don't even have heat protection on the wall around it. Your looking at a hefty fine. That stove has to be to code.
@wobdeehomestead9 ай бұрын
The manuals aren’t crap that’s what the local code officials are required to go by. They still need 14” from that side wall. Looks short too me?
@Jmf11905 ай бұрын
Owners manuals are not crap! I fit these for a living and the manufacturers regs trump building regs. Every stove has its own minimum distance from combustible materials.

To close. Be safe than sorry. Dawn works good on glass.
@normanpatterson60129 ай бұрын
Too close to the walls you're going to burn your house down
@carlgray5239 ай бұрын
That stove is illegal. It's way too close to the wall, and there is no heat protection around it. If a fire Marshall saw that , you would be in deep trouble!
@gdfggggg9 ай бұрын
Wrong.
@gdfggggg9 ай бұрын
That’s either plaster or drywall walls. It’s non combustible. My stove can have as little as a 50mm gap as long as the wall is non combustible.
@gdfggggg9 ай бұрын
But agreed they should remove the skirting board.
@gdfggggg9 ай бұрын
@carlgray523 I have a wooden stove. As said, as long as the walls are non combustible, you can put your stove surprisingly close to the wall.
@carlgray5239 ай бұрын
@gdfggggg 50mm.is 2 inches from the wall. If you have a pellet stove maybe, but not a wood stove.
