Great job! You may want to put a heat resistant back piece behind the stove to prevent fading and burning the wall. A piece of corrugated tin would work well. Just a thought. Keep up the good work!!!

You definitely need to put a damper in the stove pipe. Also build a fire in the stove when you can leave doors and windows open and you don't have to stay in there. You will see what I'm talking about as soon as you build the first fire.

There is a product called Brick Acid, it is like water, it ges on the brick, and bubbles the face off, then you wash it off with water, and when it drys its a lovely red colour, I would have stained the wooden frame around the bricks Before putting it on, also you can get Smoke tester tablets, that you put into the firebox of the stove and it shows if you have leaks Before you light a fire!!. you probably used them in the forces Nick, comes in a Meal packs when out in the field. Great video Thanks guys Love from UK @ 5 after 4 in the afternoon. x x x

Do it now wont regret it!!. x x

You should have a dying lift/elevator on the outside of the deck. Outside means there isn't a risk of spread a fire from the garage to the upstairs. I'm sure with Nick's mind he can figure one out

When I did my hearth, I laid down concrete board, mortared some 12"X !2" pavers, then topped that with ceramic tile, and run corner molding around that. Also put the concrete board on the back wall, and put the same tile over that.

You should have painted the stove and put a fire in it outside, it's going to stink up the place on first burn after painting it. Couldn't tell if your stove pipe had a damper it in, would suggest that you put one if it doesn't have it.

Hey yall, herring bone design is my favorite pattern. I used in in the floor of my eight foot outdoor fire pit, even though it mostly going to be covered with ashes. With four different stairways in my home I often consider adding an elevator because none of them are just a straight shot up & down except my front seven stairs to my screen porch. I hope you plan on covering the stairway outside with a roof. Adding some sort of brick on the wall behind the stove will retain heat like a heat bank ,and keep the wall from excessive exposure. I didn't see if you have a damper on your flue, you will need one or all of the heat will go right up and out and the fire won't last long. I designed and built a corner fireplace with a warming seat behind, and when it was done the owner decided to light a fire and asked my why isn't it drafting smoke up the chimney. I told him it is designed to have glass on one side and screen on the other to properly vent smoke. I put a piece of drywall on the corner side and the smoke went right up. Math is involved to properly size a fire box to the flue/flues.

Absolutely love this channel. I'm a wood stover from way back. Anyhow, I had an interesting experience. I'm sitting in the living room with the wood stove cooking, and I started to smell burning wood. I looked over the the crisscross stack of wood that was a couple of feet away from the stove had a red ember smoking on the tip of one of the pieces. Then I read up on it and I think it was a minimum of 36" for clearance from flammables. I don't consider dry wall to be a flammable. The question is do you need a backdrop behind the stove on the wall?

I would put a good bead of caulk or silicone at the base of the wood around your hearth to hold all that silica sand in. Over time it will probably work out of there. Everything is looking GREAT!

Just line the wall behind the stove with sheet metal panels. You don't a fancy laser to set the stove pipe under the ceiling opening. Just some washers and a string. It's called a plumb bob. Cement boards will also keep the heat off wood surfaces. They have standards of spacing for stoves. Just research them.

Just a suggestion, but I believe you are supposed to put metal backsplash behind the fire place, because the wall can catch on fire and the wall can turn black from the ash.
