A slip ring induction motor, also known as a wound rotor induction motor, is a type of induction motor that has three-phase windings on the stator and a rotor with slip rings and brushes to allow external resistance to be connected in series with the rotor windings. This allows for the control of the rotor speed, which can be adjusted to optimize the motor's performance and efficiency.
The principle of operation of a slip ring induction motor is similar to that of a standard induction motor, with the main difference being the ability to control the rotor speed. The stator windings produce a rotating magnetic field that induces current in the rotor windings. As the rotor speed is less than the stator speed, a slip occurs between the two. By adding external resistance to the rotor circuit, the rotor speed can be adjusted to match the stator speed, thus reducing slip and increasing efficiency.
Slip ring induction motors are widely used in industrial applications such as fans, pumps, compressors, and conveyors, where variable speed control and high torque are required. They are also used in variable frequency drive applications.
The main advantage of a slip ring induction motor is its ability to operate at variable speeds, which allows for better control and optimization of the motor's performance and efficiency. Additionally, slip ring induction motors have a high starting torque, which makes them suitable for applications that require high torque at low speeds.
The main disadvantage of a slip ring induction motor is that they require regular maintenance of the slip rings and brushes, which can be a source of electrical noise, and can cause wear and tear over time. Additionally, the slip ring induction motor is more complex and expensive compared to the squirrel cage induction motor.

Why starting torque is high? Why we connect external resistance? You didn't explain in detail, just explain what is in the book

Rotor jo hoti hai usme reactance hota hai means ki resistance + inductance... Ab is reactance me inductance jyda hoti hai bcoz as we know induction motor yani inductance hoga jyda jis wajah se current jo hai voltage se bahot jyda lag krta hai and lag krne k wajah se phase difference jyda aati hai and phase difference k wajah se torque usko shi nhi mil pati in case of squirrel cage induction motor and isliye o late start hoti hai torque kam hone k wjh se... Ab now in such case induction motor me hum inductance ki value to kam nhi kr skte but resistance ki value to increase kr hi skte hain taki inductance k najdik la ske resistance ko so that phase difference jo jyda tha o kam ho jaye and o hota hai slip ring se to slip ring lagane se site pe jaha motor install hoti hai udhar external resistance k through usko resistance add kiya jata hai jis se o inductance ki value k najdik jati hai so voltage se jo current bahot jyda lag kr rha tha o ab thoda najdik aa gya and ab kam lag kr rha hai and also resustance add kiya to current kam hua aise me torque badhta hai and phase difference bhi kam hone se motor jldi speed achieve kr pati hai is wjh se slip ring motor ko high starting torque motor kahte hain...
