My experience after 35 years of sobriety is that the original 12 steps from Alcoholics Anonymous is that they are spiritual. AA is a spiritual program. A great speaker I once heard who was also an Irish Catholic Priest said, "AA is the toughest God program going!" He wasnt kidding and he wasnt wrong. However, I have plenty of sober friends who have stayed sober without the "God" aspects. It still works. Take what you need and leave the rest. The best part is, its free.
