You know how when you scratch a dog in certain places and it starts to rapidly kick its hind leg? Yeah, my horse does that if you try and brush near his flank. Only thing is that it's cute when a dog does it but its terrifying when a horse does it. Needless to say I stay away from brushing his hind end all together, as I am NOT an experienced horse person. Any advice?

Just don’t be scared

@objective Fear is to not be overlooked or suppressed. That is a great way to end up extremely hurt or worse, especially when working with animals such as horses. Fact is they already know one is scared long before the human is often ready to admit it.

Hey yes absolutely. Check out our ground work series first. I'll put the link directly below here. These exercises are all done at at distance and is what I'd be working on honestly before I'm focused on brushing a horse. It serves the horse mentally knowing we can direct them and give them places to go with their energy. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gn26goGOfNaCbM0 Then watch this exercise- this adds in the physical element and I actually explain why I do this before I ever start grooming my horses. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWeqcmmNfNeJrbc Let me know what further questions arise- thanks for letting me be a part of you and your horse's journey.
