This video drama is presented by MAPS - the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (maps.org). We provide four basic principles to help someone having a difficult psychedelic experiences:
1. Create a safe space
2. Sit, don't guide
3. Talk through, don't talk down
4. Difficult is not necessarily bad
MAPS mission is to develop MDMA, LSD, Psilocybin, and Marijuana into legal prescription medicines for therapeutic applications. We are actively developing and funding clinical trials with human subjects in accordance to the guidelines set by the United States Food and Drug Administration and the European Medicines Agency. During this process we are training therapists to administer psychedelic drugs in therapeutic settings. We will open psychedelic therapy clinics around the world when these substances are approved as prescription medicines. We are also engaged in efforts to educate people about the benefits and risks of these substances and other psychedelics.
MAPS is a membership-based nonprofit organization that counts on donations from people like you to conduct achieve our mission.

In my experience, when dealing with someone who's freaked out it's also very useful to use positive language. Even something as small as pointing out that it's a beautiful evening or that the weather out is nice, can turn a trip to a positive direction. In a bad trip, people often have a narrow view of reality and can only focus on one thing, like little children do. By turning their attention towards something positive you can have a big effect on their whole stance towards the experience.Peace

Interesting. It seems like a normal response to meet negative with positive. But it also seems like a distraction to not go through something that might be important. Shouldn't you help them through it, not away from it?

Clearly calling 911 is not the first thing to be done. People do not only take psychedelics at parties or get-togethers. Those are the instances where the drugs become dangerous. People buy thing with the intent of getting fucked up and sometimes they do. I personally don't do these kinds of drugs in public anymore and I test my substances of unknown orgins. There is a lot of reasonable advice out there and we can't be nannies 24/7.

This is a great video. I absolutely love the fact that this information is out there for people to take in. I have gone through a few "bad trips" myself, and there really is nothing like having somebody there just for the sake of being there. If you haven't had an experience like this then it may be difficult to understand, but when you're all alone in your mind, the physical presence of a living being that you can trust is one of the most comforting things around.

I'm a big believer in the idea that psychedelics should always be taken by yourself in a quiet and private space which you're familiar with. Social interaction can not only become difficult under psychedelics, but it can also create feelings of anxiety and unease. You're better off by yourself, on a day when you know you don't have anything to do or are going to be disturbed.

Apparently you've never experienced the amazing synchronicity of "group trip." I recommend this, and recommend sharing with loved ones whenever possible. @@solidaritytime3650 I agree with the intimacy of a couple of close friends. But there is a different synergy when the entire campground is tripping with you. It helps when everyone is Experienced, so that there aren't any freak outs to deal with - but when a whole tribe is on the same wavelength, there is something primal, uplifting, and amazing with this level of synergy. It can't be a random group though, it has to be one which you know and trust. That is, indeed, rare. I know I am lucky to have experienced it, but I doubt I ever will again.

@@JanCarol11 That sounds amazing. Yeah, I didn't consider the prospect of a festival or tribe tripping in accord. I was thinking more along the lines of 7 individuals tripping balls in a house in the suburbs. Anywhere "civilized" I think would be a bad setting for a larger group. But yeah definitely if you're out in the woods with a hundred other psychonauts, that's gonna be a helluva time

Really surprised MAPS tells people to call 911 if there is concern about a person's safety. Safety issues can almost always be addressed much better by the community. 911 and police often make a situation unsafe; even someone who doesn't come down and is in an extreme state just needs a safe space, loving attention, and patience, not hospitals and jails.

I am a new user of cannabis for the purpose of managing disease, on occasion I will get a strain that is unsuitable for me & when it alters my mind in a standrd that scares me I have been learning to talk myself threw the experience & I usually have a favorable response & am able to gain control. I am not typically tolerant to drugs of most types even alcohol. This can also help me relate to others experiencing issues & help them without making them panic. Thank you for this video, brief, but it offered enough for me to utilize the information in conjunction with my own experiences to help another person threw.

I can speak from first hand experience that calling 911 is the absolute worst thing you can do. There is nothing healthy about being strapped to a bed having police coming in and out of the room, attempting to interrogate you about "where you got your drugs." In some states, if you test positive for a substance, you can be charged with possession.

Okay. I really respect the work of MAPS, but I can't say this video is very good. A couple things; first of all, it's better not to talk the whole time he or she is tripping. I am referring to the tripper himself/herself. Don't talk. Get reassurance if necessary. Then find a quiet place, and be ALONE. A trip sitter is good, but should only step in to check up occasionally. Why does the author of this video, or MAPS feel it necessary to be present the entire time? For some people, or really MANY people, others can be the primary source of anxiety when using psychedelics. Also, it is difficult to fully let go into the experience when someone is sitting there asking the person to describe it. Lol. So I've heard.

Wonderful video. I have a question. I'm 49.3kg, well I was when I was weighed a couple of weeks ago. If I took 30g of shrooms what kind of trip do you think I might go through?

First of all, it is impossible to fit "a few hundred doses" into a single hit, a blotter just can't hold that much lsd. Secondly, no dealer is going to put large amounts of acid in one tab because that is not economically in their advantage. Why the fuck would a dealer put 250mics in one blotter when he could put 120 mics and advert it as being 150 mics? Anyways, you can still go bad from 2 blotters. It depends on how much experience you have, your mood, the setting, your biochemistry, etc etc.

WOOOOOOOAH! FULL STOP! Are you serious?! Your advice for someone who thinks they're in physical danger is to call 911? Jesus fuck, just what they need... in 10 minutes when the ambulance has arrived theyll be interrogated under flashing red lights, strapped down, and put in a spaceship. Stick to your clinical expertise, and leave the recreation to us professionals.

These techniques should be considered for "psychotic experience," which is often induced by psychiatric drugs, ergo, a psychedelic experience, albeit an iatrogenic one.

Psychiatric drugs cannot be likened to an LSD trip. Psychedelic and psychotic are not the same thing. Have you tried LSD?
@JanCarol11
@JanCarol11 2 жыл бұрын
@@AmanitaWoodrose You misunderstood me. The psychiatric drugs can induce a ***psychotic*** expeirience. I learned to navigate psychosis via psychedelics. Psychedelics taught me many tthings, such as "this is only your mind," and "this, too, will pass." So - these techniques could be useful for navigating the "spiritual awakening" (the natural phenomenon, often induced by over-meditating) as well as the "drug induced psychosis" (often induced by psych drugs, but other ones can be implicated). Actually, one of the early uses of LSD in medicine was to induce "psychotic states" so that practitioners could better understand them. It's not the same - but there are parallels: you are disconnected from others (albeit, if you can connect to G-d, it's awesome), you are in your own head, your traumas can come up, and much of the experience can be symbolic. So they are not the same, but share some similar qualities. I recommend you examining "Spiritual Awakening" or "Spiritual Emergence" (used to be called "spiritual emergency" but we decided to use gentler terms).

Call 911 and take him to the hospital. How will you know when he is about to deteriorate physically. What if he dies in front of you. That's a very difficult trip.

what can occur is splicing (where somone goes in and out of real life and remains with a combination of information from different events) visual ilussions!!! friends changing faces/seeing demon like things/accidents looping where the trip takes a repeat, this might be the worst even panic attacks might get fixed or at least you have somewhat the feeling of agency,most of the time on too many mushrooms. time dilation the worst it can get is lifetimes ,eternities,where you think youre long gone or crazy,or lived many lives and cant even remember your name,or that you took any drug (you have to establish reality a phone that measures real time and comparison with the experienced passage of time usually does the trick/introducing new stimuli he didnt know before, an event that happened in the meantime /proof he took a drug etc/talking about something else than the bad tripper ,he might feel other people are projections of his mind if all the focus is always on him) resisting ego death -you might get the feeling that you are actually dying,are poisoned ,youve broken your brain,had gone crazy,you desintegrate,forget your identity (just accept,know that your high and surrender) words ,events ,interactions gaining a lot more meaning bad trip specifics-panic attacks,fear,distrust in your friends(even thinking they want to kill you),overdosing where the organism bearly manages to keep you functioning,meeting cops,known persons,a fight breaking out,stray dogs,traffic, at parties being overwhelmed,not seeing enough of "reality",to remove yourself from the situation,not being able to act normal, huge discomfort about needing to puke or go to the bathroom and not being able/socially accepatble./ not being able to talk/perform actions,walking/getting frozen/going blind/having shivers that only go out with the feeling of pressure ,so layers of clothes and not heat. sleep paralysis+astral rape and who knows what else when you combine them or have alchool or antidepressants, or other stuff already in your system at the moment of blasting off/getting bad impure stuff or at least fearing it. being left by your friends so they avoid legal problems ,if something medical goes wrong.
