How to wrap #dreadlocks - Dread #wrap #tutorial - More details about wrapping dreadlocks in this link: dreadlocksjourneyblog.blogspo...

Dreadlocks wrapping is the first thing that many dreadheads can not wait to do as soon as they are done with starting their dreads. However, just like anything related to the health and safety of your dreadlocks, there are few points you need to know about locks wrap.
When should I start wrapping my dreadlocks?
The best would be that you wait untill your dreads are fully matured before starting any sort of decoration or accessorizing, let them do their thing, the process is long and needs a lot of patience. And wrapping them will slow down the locking process.
But, you can still wrap your less-than-mature dreads as long as you do not keep them wrapped for a long time. I would suggest a day maximum,
Types of wrapping
there are actually no rules and you can wrap your dreads however you want, but there are two major types of dread wraps that you can play with and invent your own style:
*Criss-cross wraps: these open string wraps are the best for young dreadlocks, because they do not "choke" or squeeze the dread and allow it to breath, but if you leave the strings long enough on your young dreads, your hair will lock on them and it will be hard to take out the strings afterwards.
*Solid thread wraps: these are not recommended for young locks as they choke the dread and stop it from locking and may cause weak spots. But if you decide to wrap your young dreads do not leave them for too long as we said and also try to make your wraps loose, do not squeese the dread.

Yes you can, but remember that it didn't mature yet, so if you leave threads on it for too long, your hair will lock on them and then you won't be able to take them off

why do we have to wait til they matured? My locs are frizzy and i was thinking this would be a great way to contain the frizz

because they will form on the threads and it will be too hard to remove them afterwards, you can wrap them for containing the frizz just don't let them wrapped for too long

what if i wrapped one four month old dread and left it for a week or two would that affect the process of that dread or would it not matter
@DreadlocksJourney
@DreadlocksJourney 7 жыл бұрын
It depends on your hair, but generally one week or two is not bad. but watch the locking process, your hair might start locking on the strings and then it would be hard to unwrap

Main questions is. How do you take them back out without breakinv the dread itself?
@DreadlocksJourney
@DreadlocksJourney 5 жыл бұрын
If you don't leave them on the dread for long then you won't have that issue. if you did then you will need a professional to remove them for you carefully and safely using a hook and maybe scissors

I have twist n rip dredlocks at the moment, but I'd much rather have free form dredlocks. So, if i stop twisting them and leave them alone will they turn to free form dreds if i stop and don't do anything at all
@DreadlocksJourney
@DreadlocksJourney 4 жыл бұрын
if you stop now they would be half free form :) because you already did twist and rip.. names don't matter though just let them do their thing now, you will only have to do separation every now and then, as for how long it would take for them to fully mature, it depends on many things, like your hair texture, the shampoo you're using, their length, the climate where you live...

Im not an expert in types of strings 😅 I know very little about them, Plus it was years ago, I think just regular string, I just went to the shop and asked for strings of different colors, no idea what they gave me back then, because in all cases I never left them on my locs for too long so I didn’t care.. But I would suggest a type that would be easy to remove and not get locked with the loose hair

On young dreads you shouldn't leave them for more than one -two days, but for mature dreads you can leave them for longer, can't tell exactly because it depends on your hair, how greasy is it, where do you leave and how easily you start having build up in your dreads... only you can decide

First of all, you don't need to mentain your dreads at any time, only in few cases when you really have to, depending on your hair texture and how greasy it is and also the method you did to start your dreads.. other than that you just need to be patient and wait for your hair to do its thing. Some people maintain because they can't handle the messyness and fuzzy hair.. But yes when the locks mature there's no need to maintain them but some people still keep maintining the roots.

@@DreadlocksJourney My dreads are 9 months old now and I get maintenance every single month, otherwise they join very easily at the roots.
