I’d love it if you could talk us through how to write a production resume for Green PA’s! What can we put on there when we have little to no experience? Does background work count? How do we label miscellaneous work? Should we add who worked on that set with us like the ad’s or producers or directors? Thank you.

What is the best way to go about writing an resume when you have any real experience and no film school to your name? But you are just trying to get your foot in the door as PA? I'm barber who is looking to make switch in wanting to become a film editor.

Thanks so much for your comment! Have you watched the Editor videos series? Being a Set PA doesn't translate well to editing. It's a very different path. Quick question: I'm currently searching for work as a Set PA, I have 0 experience. Ive been on set tons of times as an extra, but never a PA. The only "training" I've had is a PA workshop at a major studio in Atlanta... should I include my extra experience and PA workshop on my resume?

Kammarie Davis yes def include that workshop n Background work. the background work tells ppl that you've at least been on set and have seen how it works.

+Teancum Horning Actually, I have a question in terms of recent work and stuff. Should you order your resume from most recent to least and if you have worked twice at one production company, should you list those two times separate or together?

+Teancum Horning I list mine in order of most recent first. dont worry about dates though. Also I include by project unless you worked exclusively for one company. For example if you were an actually employee, and not still considered freelance. when I work on tv shows i list by episode as well. same show, but each episode counts. it shows they kept calling you back. hope that helped!

What if I'm trying to apply to somewhere like Sony Pictures as an intern, but intern for what? My skills are: video editing... That's it. I don't have many references despite being an intern on a couple professional film sets where I did a little bit of everything

I'm not sure if this channel is still active but I have a question for you. I work in film here in the southeast and from what I have been told starting out , at least for work on set. Is to never list your film school on your resume because many people on set look down upon those fresh out of Film School. Due to many schools not teaching anything more than theory .Not necessarily my opinion but I have heard this from so many Crews it's crazy.

Hi Amber, I've made my PA resume and am ready to send them out but I still need to tackle the cover letter. I'm confused as to whether the cover letter is the main email itself or is it supposed to be a PDF attached to the mail? If so then what do I write in the email? Second thing I'd like to talk about is cold emailing companies. I'm planning to do a whole lot of that but could use some guidance from you regarding how to approach it and what to write in the mail and is it even a good idea to do it? Some specific questions I have about it are: 1. Should my first email be straight business or some friendly mail? 2. Some companies have a specific @jobs mail and some have a generic one. Should the approach change in both cases? That's all I can think of for now. Your response will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hey there! So the cover letter nowadays is basically your email to the person/company. Usually another attachment in addition to your resume is a bit too much and Slightly annoying for the person hiring. So when I was cold emailing- I never had luck with companies. But I made sure the email was quick. For example I said I was new to NY, said what I was looking to do, if they needed any additional Set PA' or anyone who will need any to please feel free to contact me.now companies will have aform online that you can submit to them. If you can find a personal email that's usually better. Just be cautious tho- most production folks hate cold emails. Your email should just be some robot email. U have to show your personality somewhere. Being friendly is fine, if not better than ur standard cold email. As for whether or not ur approach should change- it depends on what that company is asking for if ur using the @jobs email ya know. Also make sure you know the company ur applying/submitting ur resume to. U can't just blindly send ur info to companies without knowing them.

Any advise on what to put for experience since I technically was a PA once for a major short film last year? My resumé experience will look pretty short lol I’ve also done and helped out on several short films of my own and on student level as a director, dp, etc. I’m also reading Hollywood Game Plan but author is not clear about how to formulate a killer resumé for beginner PAs. :( please help. My issue is being too nervous to submit anything. I have experience in film and technically completed an internship (though not for school credit,) but my experience is stemming largely from student productions and I live like an hour away from LA...so like 2 or 3 hours to actually get there. Man this is gonna be an up hill battle

Ya just gotta go for it! Know that- you'll face rejection no matter what. It sucks, and it def is a up hill battle, but don't give up! I didn't!!
